I met him about a year ago and he didn't seem like a celebrity at all. He just talked bout the weather and cricket. He'll b missed by loads of peeps. Anyone know if they're going to carry on filming countdown?

Apparently so, they're going for the guest presenter policy until they sort out a permanent replacement.

Richard Whitely was one of the few English celebs that totally failed to capture even the smallest amount of contempt. In this I think he was truly a pioneer of what it was to be "british".

Thats shit man, they should leave it be. He was quoted as saying they'd never carry on wivout each other. If that was his wish.......
