truth, but I didnt say RUN DMC wasnt great, the tread starter shoudl have stated what a group was, to me its more then 2 rappers, if there is the posbility of putting a solo song on the cd casue there are only two, then I dont consider them a group but more of a combination, thats me, RUN DMC though and others such as Black Star, Outkast, Gang Star and so forth can be consider groups

yeah i know Run DMC were more fundamental and influental in rap music than the Beastie Boys, but the Beasties are better. they took what Run DMC started, and built up upon it with more quality and experimentation with their albums. They simply have a more impressive library of music.

the same goes for Wutang and Public Enemy. Wutang werent nearly as influental but had more quality music under their belt.

i'd rather say the ones who built the foundation that so many still stand on today is the better band.

run did bring hip hop to the main stream and attracted millions of fans, but as far as lasting the longest the beasties blow run dmc out of the water. you guys, have to remember the run dmc reign was only in the 80's, they tried to release a few records in the 90's that were total flops. the beasties have had three consecutive platinum and chart topping albums (IC, HN, TT5B)
Run dmc hasn't had a chart topper in nearly 15 years

now of course there are many more amazing rap groups... but i was going off of 'the group affect.' that is to say: how well i think each member plays off of each other. i think the chemistry between the members of these bands was right on.

well, id rather listen to listen zeppelin than chuck berry, and same goes for rap. i know thats not the best example, but it really comes down to quality of music and can you really say Public Enemy or Run DMC have left a better looking discography than Wutang and the Beasties? Nah.

NWA on the other hand, are not only the most influental but also at the same time also the best (counting solo records). they made straight outta comton, efil4zaggin, the chronic, amerikkkas most wanted, death certificate, amongst other less noteworthy albums.

and a rap duo is a group.
