so I am remaking a painting of mine that some jackass stole (don't know who :(). I want to put it on canvas, and it will include collage as well.

Originally it was not on canvas, so now that it is and will have collage (very little, mind you), I don't know if a particular type of paint is better than the other. Acrylics? Oils? What? heh. There will also be words as well, which I am going to paint on. I don't know if one type of paint is better than the other to paint words (how easy it is to handle, or what not).

Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

I always found acrylics on canvas to be the easiest to manage.

I guess it all depends on what kind of look you're going for.

In other words, I'm no help.

acrylics are the easiest to use. go with those.

finally! a thread topic i know something about :o
maybe it's too late.

but anyway, oils are good for mixing and clarity of colour. the pigment is more expensive, but it is worth it for the quality. you can also add a lot of things to the paint to make it the way you want. you've gotta clean them up with turps though, and inhaling too much of that shit is no good.

however, i use acrylics because they are cheaper and easier to clean up. they also dry quicker. the more expensive acrylics can have a very similar quality to oils.

also, make sure you use a binder medium with the acrylic instead of water to thin it down, because you can lose the quality of the pigment. (binders are like PVA glue - they dry clear)

if you have any more questions, i'd be happy to help

Thanks zorra! the tip on the binder medium helps a lot. I was unaware of that.
