J5 fell off pretty much right after their first ep/album. They're kinda boring.

i'm kinda the opposite.
i wasn't really into them during the EP and Quality Control...
but got into them with Power in Numbers...and i really dig that album.
they have thier own sound....
but that sound hasn't evolved at all...and this latest single sounds exactly the same all there other stuff...
but i dig it...i'll get it.

That's the problem, really. I thought Unified Rebelution was a good song, and the EP was cool, but then they got into this formula that doesn't seem to change. And it's the same generic drum beat with a distinct bassline on every first single, too.
I thought that little bit of Cold Crush-styled singing they used to do was good too, but now, like I said, they kinda just bore me.
I'll probably end up buying it still, maybe.

They put on a damn good show. Very polished, very tight, and their shit is fun and funky. Their lyrics aren't all that thrilling, but I enjoy listening to them anyways and I'm looking forward to hearing their new stuff. That's all I have to say about that.

they're one of my favorite groups.
i believe Quality Control to be a masterpiece.
this sounds pretty good to me, I hope it means there is an actual LP on the horizon.

Yeah, they are really great live.
I don't think they fell off. I love Power in Numbers.

It sounds real good, but honestly I didn't think What's Golden was even close to the best song on Power in Numbers; it seems the opening single is often not the best on the album. Don't get me wrong tho, I'm feeling it. I like Power in Numbers better than the older material. Chali 2na is the shit; you absolutely can't step to his shit. From Ozomatli to J5 to solo material, he fucking kills it. That said, the other guys' rhymes really stepped it up for Power in Numbers. Does anyone have a solid release date for the new J5 album? Cut Chemist has one coming down the line imminently as well; he was absent at a recent show I went to because he is working on the solo project. Needless to say the show was amazing. Anyway, yeah thanks for the find, I can't decide whether I'm more ridiculously pumped for this album or for Blackalicious' "The Craft" coming out Sept. 27 last I checked. If anyone cares, www.solesides.com has a mp3 link to "Rhythm Sticks" off that new album. Sorry I wandered so far off topic.

they tend to drop singles here and there which is why I wonder it this is off a forthcoming album or not.
in 03, there was a 12" single of "Linguistics"- also a hot track.

Not a big J5 fan.
I was looking at the EP a few months ago in a music store, and I would've bought it too - only if it was a bit cheaper. But 18 bucks? Nahhh.

Ya, exactly. I realize it's some of their best material and all... but the most I'm paying for an EP is ten bucks. Unless it's made by god.

I just realized that J5 performed Red Hot at the show I was at in May. My friend copped a setlist, I'll see if I can get it off of him so I can throw up the other new songs they did, no audio but i guess the names are something. I distinctly remember that name from the setlist though. At the time I felt like a real inadequate J5 fan because I didn't know the words; it was only after that I realized it was new.

To the dude that didn't dig 2na......whooooooaaaaaaa....Charli's one of the baddest MC's in my book.
Yo Adam, any clue to where i can get my ears on some other new J5. I'm gonna check em out at the Republic of New Orleans on May 6th, I'd love to be familar with some other new stuff. I heard some when they were down here last year for jazz fest and the 3 songs they played were the shit!!!

Regardless if you like what you've heard or not, try them live they put on a great show and Cut Chemist and NuMark are awesome. The guys always step back and just let them scratch. I also love their freestyle. I've seen them at Stubb's (same place the Beasties just played their secret show here in Austin for those lucky enough to see) and every time has been great and the crowd gets into it. They are also genuinely nice guys and stay after the show to sign autographs, photos, talk etc. It's nice to see someone besides the Beasties try to do something positive with their music.

Agreed. Stubb's is a cool ass venue, great food as well. Saw Coheed and Cambria there in October while I was evacuated b/c of Katrina, awesome show. Saw J5 in N.O. a year ago and man they were off the map. There were at least 1500 people in this club. Now that place is closed due to devastation so they gotta play 2 shows at a smaller club this year. Sucks I gotta pick a show to go to, between work and jazz fest no way i can make both.
