View Full Version : Are the Beastie Boys friends?
Alright, this is not your typical 'what size shoes do the boys wear' thread. I have been a Beasties fan for many years and consider myself fairly knowledgeable fan. If you refer to that thread about stages of being a fan, I am in my last stage where I am no longer obsessed with them because I have found enlightenment within the Beasties.
Enough explaining, this is a question I have been wondering about for some time. Are the Beastie Boys good friends in their everyday lives? I know they have been friends since they were very young, but they have been together for so long. Are they friends that spend their weekends and days off together or are they more or less just work friends? I mean, I have good friends at my office and school, but I only see them at the office or in class. Not on weekends or at the bars. Would you say the Beasie Boys have a work type relationship, or do they hang out like good friends?

I reckon they would be friends and see each other a fair bit, in the years off they have, but right after a tour they'd probably go there seperate ways for a while.

i reckon mike d and adam h are very good friends, and mike d and adam y are good friends, but i think there is a cold bitterness about the body language used when adam y and adam h are together.

Good point bro! I totally see what you're sayin'....
For some reason I've just always refused to believe into it. I think I latched on so personally to the Bboys initially for the fact that they just seemed like good friends havin' fun all the time. They gave you the idea that you and your boys could do what they're doin'...
I would hate to have that whole philosophy misconstrued

yeah...Mike and Yauch have kids...I heard something from a very reliable source recently...Adrock is desperately trying to have a kid with Kathleen Hanna ASAP so all the kids will be roughly the same age as they want them to form a hip-hop/punk group as well and call them Beastie Boys II: A New Hope.
CJHood, can you confirm this?

That would be so awsomely cool if that was gonna happen, but I thought I heard something like Adrock didn't wanna have any kids because of his epilepsy. But if that's true Adrock must be pretty busy lately huh. :D

ooOOhh....Good point....why didnt i think of that.
Ok....im going with there all like brothers....but like brothers you have your differences.
Would you agree that Ad Rock is the rowdier of the 3? If so, MCA would be the more fatherlike of the bunch? Not dissing the boys, just trying to see if anyone agrees?

i agree that adrock is the most rowdy, so is mike d. mca is definately the most grown up. he grew up during check your head and the other two have been trying to catch up since.

in the spin magazine last year they said in the six years they had been away they spent 2 years making tt5b and 4 years hanging out being friends.i do think there is a vibe between yauch and adrock though, sometimes that happens between friends when one thinks he's more adult than the other.

Does anyone else here find the whole subject of this thread kind of absurd? Of course they're friends. Their relationships amongst each other are obviously different than the norm since they're famous and work together and all, but let's get real here; the bboys are good friends. Maybe they don't hang out with each other 24/7 like they used to, but who does when they near forty and have a family? That's true to say about almost anyone. The younger people are the more the priority is for them to be hangin' with their peers, experiencing stuff together, and just having a good time. As people age though, this whole factor isn't quite as much a priority as creating a family and pursuing personal interests. But it doesn't go to show that you lose the desire to chill with your bretheren altogether, it's just simply not the #1 priority in their lives anymore.
Also, I totally disagree about the Adrock-Yauch deal. They are above bullshit like that. And if you really look at it, Adrock seems just as mature as Yauch in any interview you see or hear with them. And besides, Horovitz seemed more mature than Yauch back in the LTI days anyways.

Oh i think there more than just friends. Hell ...probably closer than most brothers i know. But i think they ALL were imature back in the LTI days....just check out the LTI VHS. But hey they had every right to be....they were ROCK/RAP Stars at a very young age. They could have been ALOT worse. I don't think either are more mature than the other,
I just should have should that Ad Rock act more of like the rebelious b-boy? But all are very keen and very mature. :D

The only way to know this would be if you became friends with them too. Then you would really see their relationship with your own eyes.
What we see on TV, what they claim to be, who guarantees that's what happens in their every day lives? Not that I think they are liers, but you know...
Nonetheless, I like to believethey are more like brothers, like someone else said previously. Do you talk to your brother every day? I don't. I mean, not to my sister who doesn't live in the same house as me. Anyway...
I assume they see each other very often as for making new music is not a simple, short process. It take years to make albums, sometimes, many times. Not to mention videos and any other surprises.:p
