this is why some of the relationships with people's significant others have failed on here... people (myself included) use(d) this as an escape because our own (my own) relationship was lacking to the point where i'd rather be on here than communicating with my significant other (i.e. husband)... part of the problem was he didn't want to communicate, so i used this board as a place to get my fix... he later admitted that he would wait for me to get online because he knew he wouldn't have to talk to me... "go talk to your little friends" is what he would say... the board today does not affect my current relationship (which was created because of this board) because i have no desire to be online when i am at home... i cringe when i see married members posting from home because i know how it goes... i would assume his wife was truly bothered by this place...

i think in some cases, the internet (and this board) can be more dangerous than going out to bars because you CAN say whatever you wish and be whomever you want to be... if your man goes out to bars with his buddies, most likely he's not out there flirting and saying things as he would on the internet... this reason alone makes this place that much more appealing to a lot of people because you can pretty much do whatever the fuck you want to... and you seriously need couples counseling if you prefer board members over your own reality...

I was online in 1984 and before that when all of this was just an experiment at the place where I work. I saw how easy it was then (in 1984, even just with email and newsgroups) to get attached to people who you only knew online.

You can lose time easily here.

Everything's faster...makes it easy for people to come and go...that it's so easy in that way makes it hard in other ways.

I've got two friends from this MB & we've been talking in email for months.
I feel like I know them almost as well as a couple of face-to-face friends that I've had for > a year. They don't post or post often so it's not like I'd miss them if they left the boards but I'd miss them lots if they left email in their pasts.

I didn't talk much with Knuckles, but I read all of this threads and enjoyed them a lot. Like David going, it's something that'll leave these boards a little different, just a little emptier.

I don't think that it's 'women' per se that "care" so much... it's the fact that the board is using up time that could be spent in a different way...

If, let's say, a board member posts during the day (while at work), but never mentions the board or the people while in the presence of their significant other, then there wouldn't be a problem... it's probably the fact that they are thinking about it away from posting on it that bothers them...

but, the way all you just said you came on here when you needed to...and not just you guys, i mean,any type of interactive webpage for any reason, the way it competes with interacting with people in real life, its like, this place is literally alive. im talking about the type of power it has (as if thats anything new), im just saying it blows me away how, the human being has taken on another physical form now: a screen with letters and images, and how we have an actual competition for the actual real life human being now. because, a human being obviosly does not equal a screen with letters and images. (id like to make another thread to think of all the differences just for fun actually).

we have fkin competition man! its like youd think aliens wouldve came first. im not criticizing btw im making an observation that fkin blows me away and it just sort of really hit that i "know" someone that will in many years be part of a possibly disturbing statistic.

Here's my solution to that.

I don't post my photo.

She has a pillow and bedding in the closet and seems to enjoy While You Were Out, Trading Spaces and other such shows. Either way she is happy and I have free time. I have way too much free time, but I'm usually too busy to use it.

I can't really blame her and all. She just now found this new message board and it seems really interesting to her. Also she isn't working right now and it's both of our decision because of the environment we live in.

I have to wake up at 4:00 am which means I have to sleep around 8 or 9 pm so it's not her fault that I have to sleep so early.

I just can't get used to her staying up all night and not going to bed when I do.

It's not really a matter of therapy, it's just something I've got to get used to on my own. Her message board keeps her occupied and it also gives her some guidance on living in the states because it's a Chinese-American M.B.

She's been to the states before as a foriegn exchange student but this is going to be a totally new experience for her so it is somewhat benificial to her.

On the other hand, I'm pretty sure married people or people that are in long term relationships can relate with me on the topic of always going to sleep at the same time and then the cycle changes.
