I got mine at Circuit City for $520 after taxes and rebates. It's an HP pavilion ze4900. I don't know what that means, but I have 40 gigs, a CD burner, DVD player, and 56 k modem installed. I had it hand-built though, through a special deal they had over the holidays.

If your town is anything like mine, they might have a computer show and sale that comes around every so often (mine comes to the local fairgrounds). There, you can get really cheap computer equipment and laptops because it's overstock.

Also, Dell.com is having a sale now, there's one for $519 here (http://www1.us.dell.com/content/products/features.aspx/inspn_1200?c=us&cs=04&l=en&s=bsd).

Just keep your eyes open for ads, you can definitely get one for $550 or less, don't settle for an expensive-ass one if you don't need all that fancy shit. Mine does everything I need it to and I love it.

Don't listen to moron (faithbanks) there and buy stolen ones. Take a look around town, check out local newspapers and see what your best bet is. Don't go for the absolute best one, go for the best buy. If you need advice on what kind of software/hardware is good, PM me.
