So i'm in the gym the other day and this kid and I start talking about what kinda music we like. I said oh I like rap, the Beastie Boys kick ass. The other kid said the beastie boys, they're not rap. And I'm thinkin, this dumb ass doesn't even know who the beastie boys are. Then we got in this big argument, which I kicked his ass in. I convinced him the Beastie Boys were straight up hip hop. Then this kid tells me he likes all sourts of music but especially country. WTF!!!

Nobody is in their normal sanity in the gym due to the fact that some parts of our brains are immediately blocked by the smell of ass and B.O.

It's a fact. (y)

its a common misconception, especially if the kid knew the beasties during thier "sabotage" period.

Isn't Sabotage like rap-metal?

its a common misconception, especially if the kid knew the beasties during thier "sabotage" period. I can recall when grunge kids got into the beasties and went lookin for their albums only to be shocked that they were in the rap section of thier local music store and not in the alternative/grunge catagory. I even knew people that listened to them when they were underground with thier hardcore material of the early 80's and they still called them "hardcore" even after LTI made them mainstream.

*raises hand*

I made the same mistake. I didn't know any of their music aside of Intergalactic and just a bit of Body Movin'. I never heard Sabotage on the radio. So when I read lyrics to one of their songs and they intrigued me and I went to find out more about them, I actually didn't even know where (in the record store) to look.

In the 90s, I listened to RATM, Pearl Jam, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Nirvana, and various guitar musicians that don't make music like ^^^.

The radio stations that played this other music never played the Beasties except for the two songs I mentioned above (Intergalactic and very occasionally, Body Movin'). Then in the last few years, the radio stations changed formats lots and every now and then (now) I hear a Beasties song. It's just really rare to hear one. I hear them more through DMX in restaurants.
