View Full Version : find me a wedding dress
i'm looking for ideas. i'm likely going to get a lot of bad ones as a joke in this thread, but oh well.
i prefer simple over extravagant. anything from a formal gown to a bridal gown, as long as it isn't too puffy. and i LOATHE sequins.
doesn't matter what color it is -- i could get it made in ivory.

Those are gorgeous. That's exactly the style of dress that I'd wear if I had a dress/evening event. Especially this one:

I kinda hate traditional wedding gowns with all the fluff and layers and bo-peepishness. Nothing like long, sleek, and simple for a dress gown.
Beth, good luck deciding!

Glad someone dug them.
I like those, but those are probably not what I'd go for personally. I was trying my best to cater to what Beth likes most.
I don't like super fluff or layers either though. I would share what I like, but I will save it until I see Beth's feedback :D

You'd look pretty in those--they're young but sophisticated. I still like the straight cut (maybe just for older people like me).
No wonder my marriage was doomed...
At my wedding I wore a light-cream colored dress. It was long and sleek/straight with thin straps, a low back, and a very small bow in the front. It looked much like a lot of what we're seeing here. It wasn't so cream that you'd notice that it wasn't white and I liked that. It looked a lot like the dress my ma wore at her wedding, which is exactly what I was striving for.
The day before the wedding, my mother-in-law got into town and mentioned that she was wearing white to the wedding. Stark white. And lace.
The afternoon before the wedding, I went out and bought another dress and my dad and I were up until 3am altering it.
No wonder things went the way they did.
(Although I loved the memories I have of my dad doing that alteration work with me. He shopped with me. That night and into the morning, he worked so hard--he had pins in his mouth and was running around with a tape measure around his neck. We had really nice talks throughout that whole thing so in a way, I have my ex-mother-in-law to thank for that.)

i dont have a picture, but about a year and a half ago, i saw awhite dress at dior that i wanted soooo bad to be my wedding dress. it was like a silk slip dress, but then it had a gauzy layer on top. it was shaped beautifully. it accentuated bust, minimized waist, it had just about the right amount of tail, and it was just awesome for a late summer wedding.
oh i wish i could find a picture.

I think it's great that you're getting married. I love weddings. They are the most natural of life celebrations in my opinion. The union of two souls. Congratulations. You are in the ranks of those awaiting entry into the most badass club on earth.
Not that I've ever been close nor do I want to Be married at this time, but I think it's an incredible undertaking and the only reason that people detract from the beauty of marriage is that they either marry shitty people, already have too many "Married Couples" that they have to hang out with once a month, or they couldnt get laid in a Thai Whorehouse with a 100 dollar bill for a condom.
100 dollars american.
Or Armenian. Does it matter? Soon enough.

Only the bride is supposed to wear white at a wedding! Also the bridesmaids are dressed in as horrendous dresses as possible as not to outshine the bride.
Good luck finding THE dress, Beth!
medellia: that one was a bit much for me; i really just loathe sequins and whatever else was sparkling on it.
erbngirl: where'd you find that one? it's great. the photo is a little digitized -- do you have a larger photo of it?
cosmo: i forgot to mention i’m not a fan of lace, so the first one you posted is too much for me, and i’m not a huge fan of the lace on the top of the blue one, but the style of it is nice (though i forgot to mention i'm scared of strapless dresses -- see my response to crystal below). i adore the vera wangs that you posted except that one with the beads on it (and the third one may be a little poofy). if only i could afford a real vera wang. :( i can’t really tell much about your SIL’s dress, but i’m not a huge fan of the back having all that corset stuff going on. i need to be able to get in and out of the dress quickly (the 'out of it quickly' part being most important ;)).
yorkshire rose: the first one is somewhat boxy, without much of a waistline. i really love the look of the back of the second one and am curious about how the front looks.
mr. films: is that even a real girl? there are so many angles on that dress, i wondered if she was computer generated.
beastieangel01: i like the simplicity of a lot of the dresses you linked / posted. some of them i would just want to exclude the flower they put in the middle of the bust. you gave me a lot of options within the parameters (though some have a little beading that'd have to go). i’m a little concerned about strapless though as i have zero boobs. you couldn’t possibly relate to my dilemma on that one. ;)
cookiepuss: i like the first and second one you posted. again, though, i’m a little concerned about strapless.
rob20: i’m glad guys are participating, so thank you very much. however, too much beads and i forgot to mention i’m not a fan of the corset back.
marsdaddy: thank you for posting as well. those are beads i could live with, and the neckline is great. it’d likely be perfect if it didn’t have the different waistline and just flowed all as one length of fabric. it’s a lovely dress though.
i do very much appreciate everyone's input, and i hope no one is offended by my feedback. it's just one of those personal taste things, and while something may not be right for me, it doesn't mean it's not a beautiful dress. ya know?

So you don't want to rock the strapless dress?
Do you want simple thin stramps? halter? long sleeve?

It's pricey, but unlike a wedding dress you can wear it more than once.
it's about fucking time. haven't you done some designing?
i'm interested in what you would choose, if you were me.
i can only see the first one, but it's very pretty. i was thinking it wasn't as simple as some of the other ones, but maybe you chose it because it was less like a wedding dress and more of a formal gown?
my children will be shocked to learn i ain't no virgin.
*sigh* he's dreamy, isn't he?
