We fucking got it! We never ever win stuff like that and given the last fraught week with the French, it makes it all the more sweet...

I thought it was almost a no-brainer for London to get the Olympics.

No way. Paris has been favourite for the past 18 months. We really only came into the running when Madrid self-detinated with an international football match that had awful racist chants throughout.

For me, it was a no brainer. That's more of what I was thinking. I would rather have had London get the games than Paris.
It was a heated bid...and there was little chance that NY would get it. I thought it came down to Paris/London and I just thought it was a slam-dunk for London (as far as my preference goes).

Man I knew I should have put money on London. They were at 5/1 to get the olympics, whereas paris was 3/2. I was so close to putting 10 bucks on it just for the hell of it. Dammit :(

I thought Paris did a great job with the World Cup in 98.
I'm sure London'll do well, too. But, didn't the Brits cause the problems in Madrid? Or was that a different football tournament?

No, the Spanish caused the problems in Madrid with their racist chanting. It was all their own doing.
