Patron's pot leaves nice tip for police

JACKSONVILLE - Leaving a half-gram of marijuana as a tip at a Starbucks is a bad idea. Coming back the next day, fighting with the police and dropping your stash is even worse.

But police say that's what Delshawn Prejean, 35, of Jacksonville, did.

According to a Sheriff's Office report, a customer at the Starbucks told the server as he was leaving, "I left your tip on the counter." When she looked down, she saw a small amount of unwrapped marijuana.

When Prejean came into the store Tuesday, the server recognized him. She called a security guard and police.

When he got to the door to leave, the security guard identified himself, but Prejean wouldn't stop, police said.

Jacksonville sheriff's Officer F.D. Lockley intervened and a struggle ensued in the parking lot, where others helped subdue Prejean. During the fracas, Prejean dropped a box of marijuana and rolling papers, officers said.

Prejean was charged with battery, resisting an officer, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Have you see the joke email that's being passed around with the public defender's advice to the client? Parts are in bad taste but it was funny.

no, i haven't. pm me with it.

today at arraignments, a dude was appointed a pd. he asked me: "am i going to be getting a public defender, or a real lawyer?" my response "i am a real lawyer and i'm a pd."

my favorite story along those lines from the office is one of the attorneys won a trial and the client was ecstatic. he said to the pd "man, you're awesome! you should really think about going to law school." the attorney just said "thanks, i might."

That's so common. It's just insane. If they only knew how truly awful most private criminal defense attorneys are. There's a guy I clerked with during school who has been a private criminal defense attorney for almost 15 years and he's never had a jury trial. I'm guessing the prosecutors in his small town know this.

I'll probably have to PM it in two pieces because it's kind of long, but some of it will hit home.

And his first name means "of Shawn" so basically he is "OF SHAWN BEFORE JEAN" so his very existence is like an SAT logic problem and we're trying to figure out how and when he got here. However, I could be really judgemental here in thinking he probably didn't take the SAT.

That, or it's a really old-world style heritage name.

ha. silly.

I wouldn't know what to do with that tip. But I know I wouldn't call the cops on him. That is one thing that bugs the crap out of me. Call the cops on someone driving dangerously or something. That person is more likely to hurt others. Sheesh.
