I was curious to know if threadsare just automatically deleted after a certain period of inactivity or whatever?
The only reason i ask is there was a bunch of stuff Yauch said in threads regarding TT5B and the AOLTNYC video (which were both, ermm..coincidentaly started by me (y) ) and I couldn't find them.
I imagine when they get pushed off the last page thats it as far as that particular thread goes? Sorry if this has been explained before, I've just never been that sure. Also once a thread goes does the posts you've made in it not count anymore? Only I was over 700 posts the other month and now I'm back down again. Oh well...
cheers,
dave

Yeah, from time to time we have to do what's known as a "prune". When this happens old threads which have been inactive for a long time are removed. This is necessary to keep the forums running smoothly. Things start to get very slow when there are too many threads in the database etc.

No, threads can still exist but not be visible on the thread list pages. A thread will only cease to exist as per above when we prune the forums.
As for the post count - yeah, that will drop when a thread you posted in is removed.

I realize there has to be pruning but I was sorry to see some of the old General Beastie stuff go. Amid all the crap there were a few threads with interesting stuff. I know admins can't comb through it all individually though.
Please don't purge the tour blog just because people no longer bump the threads. And thanks for leaving the Press section alone so far. It's been a good resource for newbies.

Yeah i know what you mean, i totally understand it and all (the pruning), but there's some real interesting shit that's gone, especially some of the stuff where Yauch's put in a bunch of really insightful comments...it's got to be done though i guess. Also I imagine taking out a really long thread is worthwhile in terms of preventing things getting slow.

I hadn't realized, but I guess we lost Yauch's explanation of The Prodigy dispute. That's too bad.
On the other hand, most of my silly newbie remarks disappeared and that's cool. :p

I don't think we lost that - if this (http://beastieboys.com/bbs/showthread.php?t=33703) is what you're referring to there?
As for the Press section and the Tour Blog sections - we'll avoid pruning those where possible. I'd hate to see any part of them go. They're great sources of information as you say and don't occupy much of our resources at all really compared to the bulk of the content stored on the forums.

Ooooh thanks! I searched for "prodigy" not "ex-prodigy" in the thread title. :o And weren't you clever--moving it to frequent posts. :)

mate it was my thread! i had this sad, but joyous, little run of Yauch responding to my threads, or posting somewhere in them...but yeah pretty sure that's gone. I remember he said quite a few useful things, but I definitely remember him quoting you and saying you were right (y)

it should be sum sort of rule that yauch or any member of the beastie boys posts cannot and will not be deleted (!) :)

I'm not sure how those posts went - we haven't pruned in a way which would affect them. Unless someone else did and I'm not aware, that is. :)

I have no recollection of this taking place, or indeed, no memory of the threads and user name you mention here.
