Hey Minton,

I've seen you mention old threads a lot as the reason for "pruning". It seems that the over abundance of threads is one of the major problems in keeping the site running smoothly,...correct?

I was wondering if you ever considered having a minimum post count in order to start a thread. Let's say 500 posts or something.

This would alieviate 3 things as I see it;

1. Unneccessary and pointless threads clogging up the server.
2. Spammers who come here, make an account, and immediatley spam our PM boxes.
3. Stopping new users who join up and make threads that have already been done in a different form. Making new users navigate around and become thoroughly familiar with the site before they can start threads.

Maybe even keep an open forum that users under 500 posts can start threads in just incase they have a question about the band they would like to ask and aren't interested in making 500 posts in order to ask it.

Just an idea.....Rob$

Great idea, hopefully that wouldn't mean people spamming up the board with nonsense just so they can get to the 500 mark, though.

yeah 500 posts is a lot ... i have something like 700 and i've been here a year. not everyone posts 25 times a day.. not that there's anything wrong with that (well there is, but still)

The 500 posts number is totally arbitrary,....it could be 100 posts, or 50 even,....

....and Roosta, Minton already seems to ban those type of users immediatley. The ones who come in and spam up the boards as soon as they join.

Admittedley, it may not be a perfect idea, but I think it will help more then it will hurt.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I don't think something like this is really the way to go for this forum.
