View Full Version : Box Set Dilemma

By the end of this month, I wish to splurge on a box set, but I'm unsure of which one to get into first.
I'm torn between "Nuggets II" (http://www.rhino.com/store/ProductDetail.lasso?Number=76787) and Depeche Mode Singles Box 4 (http://www.rhino.com/store/ProductDetail.lasso?Number=78892).
On the one hand, the Nuggets II set is great for opening my eyes to some '60s British garage I'm not aware of. However, with the DM singles box set, that contains some awesome remixes to some of the greatest pop music ever written (yes, I'm gonna say it, the best remixes of songs are remixed Depeche Mode tracks).
Thoughts? Suggestions? Just don't tell me I should get a Culture Club box set instead, okay?

reasons: Rhino box sets rule, and remixes...well, remixes get boring. you'll be tired of it within a week.

Do I hear an echo in here? :p
BOTH of them are Rhino box sets, but yeah, I'm probably better off with Nuggets, no matter how awesome DM remixes are...

Do you have the first Nuggets? Because all these critics say it's the best thing ever but it doesn't have a lot of appeal and it's a lot of money.
I think you should spend your $60 American and go to some concerts instead. ;)

Have you ever heard the Mash-Up of Johnny Cash and Depeche Mode doing "Your own Personal Jesus"? It is great.
I probably would direct you to a whole different Box Set, like James Browns "Star Time (http://www.rollingstone.com/news/story/_/id/6598090?rnd=1121132983437&has-player=true&version=6.0.12.872)" or Otis Redding's "Otis! The Definitive Otis Redding (http://www.rhino.com/store/ProductDetail.lasso?Number=71439)".
Either one would ultimately be much more satisfying. You probably already have them though.

I have the first Nuggets. It's wicked. That one focuses on the American bands. Nuggets II focuses on all British bands.

You'll probably lynch me... but no, I don't have either of them. I need to get more familiar with Otis and my Dad has TONS of Johnny Cash, so I'll have to properly pilfer his back catalogue one of these days (only heard his live prison recordings and his "American" albums).

Live concerts only last a few hours. Box sets last a lifetime. :p
