did you really need to tell her to go fuck herself though? i mean you could have handled it differently even if you feel like she was being pushy. maybe she was a bit pushy, maybe you were a little more rude than was necessary, and maybe she was being a little pathetic with the crying and all.
next time just tell her that you don't want a phone but you do want her phone number.

That was really insulting of her to assume that just because you're a guy, you're going to be dumb enough to do something just to be around some tits. She was being degrading.
Turd are you sure you didn't send her mixed signals? Maybe you were checking her out before she talked to you, smiling and seemed friendly you know, literally saying "no" but your body was saying "yes." And then like a cat you go from cuddly purring to flipping over slashing with your claws out. This has happened to me before; A guy will seem really friendly and talkative so he can lure you into a conversation to get the chance to tell you to fuck off so he can feel like an empowered man who told a girl to leave him alone. It's a cheap grab for self confidence. This was more common with young guys in their teens and early 20s, I don't see it much anymore and I've started to tell when a guy is doing the "nice" asshole routine.

I'm just saying, it's a misogynistic display. So she flirted with him to try to get him to buy something. Like this is some strange new sales tactic? I'm just trying to get to why everyone's all like "Hey, good for you, Turd!" like he's done something admirable by acting like an asshole because someone at the MALL tried to convince him to BUY stuff!

what we have here is gender clash.
if this story happend just as Turd stated, then this girl was attempting to use her sexuality to sell a product that had nothing to do with sexuality or physical appearance. that is shallow and objectifies women for one. it should not be respected.
second, she was being rude and pushy. that should not be respected.
lastly, turd made a judgment call. he percieved her to be someone who was accustomed to getting what she wanted due to her physical attributes. he perceived her as presumptuous, sexually arrogant, and egotistical. this is not be respected.
he lashed out at her for numerous reasons: to show his anger at her presumption that her boobs allowed her to be as pushy as she wanted and would induce a sale.
to show anger at her rudeness.
to show anger and disapproval for he apparent overly inflated self esteem and to knock her down a peg, so as she would learn a lesson: shallow and physically egotistical is no way to go through life.

I was going to say something similar. How is this account considered "one for the team"? Using your physical attributes to some degree in order to get a person's attention is really no different from smiling a lot and turning up the charm. Selling isn't always the most dignified profession to begin with.

I agree with this, although I still think he acted out in a degree of rudeness greater than that he claims he was met with, and I think he was lashing out at what this girl symbolized to him, not just at this individual, and I have doubts that it all went down just as he claimed.

I think the story is half bullshit, personally. But the fact that most of the responses in this thread condone the idea of someone knocking a person down a peg based on their assumption that they need it, and that telling them to "go fuck themselves" is warranted doesn't say a whole lot about where we're at as a society.

They are accurate but the board warps things, exaggerates the negative sentiments and diminishes the postive sentiments. Since positive comments are welcome in the physical walkbout in your face world, we get to vent them there, while all the piss and vinegar is saved for the anonymous typed-word safe-distance CYBERSPACE - that is, except for Turd who spews it in the faces of salesgirls.

No, that isn't what I'm saying at all.
What I'm saying is a) don't go to the fucking mall and then act all uptight because someone tried to tell you some stuff you didn't need or want. It's like boarding a plane and then getting pissed off because it's going up in the air, and b)his anger is specifically directed at the fact that (he percieved) she tried to be a bit flirty with him. As though this is a crime she should be severly punished for. And that's the same line of reasoning that puts women in burkhas - the notion that they are dirty and vile and will subvert men's attention from purer pursuits. (Although just what Turd's purer pursuit was at the mall, I do not know.)

Yes it is, if that line of reasoning is from a position in power. Instead, Turd feels like the tits in your face is the powerful position and he's subverting it by rebelling against it. This girl was degrading herself to sell things, using her body to sell phones, maybe Turd's comment will give her something to think about, to use something less superficial to find her calling in life, maybe she'll go back to school or otherwise not sellout on her looks like that to strangers and end up feeling so cheap. I doubt it, but this is fun to talk about.

no you go to a mall to buy things true, but if someone is trying to sell you something after repeatedly being told no thanks, that's harassment and that person should be told off.
the second part of your "argument" is fucking ludacris. YOU should be offended more so than turd was at her using her sexuality to overcome the objection of not interested in the product she's shilling. doesn't that objectify women and really makes a bad statement as to if she couldn't do her job without her sex appeal?
that's why i applaud turd, i worked in cell phone sales actually and i worked with a very attractive young girl and she solely relied on her selling skills to make her commissions. in fact if someone was leering at her or obviously hanging around and buying more just to oggle her she'd pass them off to one of the male salespeople just to get them out of there (she'd get credit for any sale still, we weren't stealing her comissions).

Flip sides of the same coin. It all comes down to the male trying to control the sexual power of the female. This is just a small scale example, is all.
From my perspective, when I say see a guy recating to a female's display (however minor, as I imagine this incident to be) with such vehemence and anger, it's like a warning bell. He wants to punish one woman, because of his anger with all women. As you have said already, Nuzz - his reaction wasn't just about this incident.
Q as I said, I know I am taking this line of reasoning down to its far end - but it is the same line. I'm pointing out where I see it on the continuum.
By the way, I say all this realising that Turd is a fabulous and largely fictitious character, and that virtually everything he says on here is all about pushing buttons. I just happen to like the way this one is going, is all.

Yes, I know, but I really don't really think that Turd made a conscious decision to put someone in their place or confront the quandary he was faced with in a manner to benefit this person or take one for the team; he got annoyed. Plain and simple. Wow. This isn't even really to do with gender issues or using sex to sell, it's that people think that what (he claims) he did was this great momentous act that actually mattered or something.

No it isn't "ludacris." In fact, it isn't even ludicrous. It's the subject of a great deal of scholarly attention and if you are actually interested in understanding my argument, I will be happy to source an article or two on the subject. If however you just want to tell me I'm wrong, I won't waste either of our time. It's an argument "as old as Eve", as they say.
I really don't see a thing wrong with women - or men - using their sex appeal as part of how they present themselves. If it's the only trick you got in your bag, well, I think that's a sad thing. But if you got looks and brains and you can use them together, then by all means - go right ahead.

If you don't see anything wrong with a woman objectifying herself yet think you can decry turd for yelling at a girl because in your head he was one step away from throwing her in a burkha you are seriously twisted.
It's going to be feminists like yourself that will do more to keep gender equallity from becoming a relality in the same way other previously marginalised groups think they should be handled with kid gloves and given special privlages for being who they are because of how badly they were oppressed in the past.
All that kind of thinking does is continue to keep everyone seperate and from being accepted as a whole species, instead of the gender they were born as or they color of their skin.

Even though he was being rude I understand the feeling when advertising and pushy uses of sexuality are dirven at you all the time, and yes he was at the mall so he willingly entered advertising territory but still it's like whipping the tall sexy pushy blades of grass aside with your verbal machete in order to get what you want. It's an oppressive, mind-numbing, mind-fucking market out there and you have to endure it to live in the world of material wealth and comfort but sometimes you feel bombarded by beauty telling you that you love beauty, telling you you want beauty, telling you you need things to be beautiful and that you are weak and a tool to make money for someone else. This girl was also just a tool in the market jungle and hopefully she'll have a moment when she tells her manager to fuck off too, when he tries to get her to sell more and she feels like she has to work harder at a shitty job and look prettier and have more phones and we're always reminded how important it is to have a sellable quality, to USE yourself to manipulate other people to get things for someone else. Tell it to fuck off, tell them to fuck off, it's insensitive and harsh and she's not to blame but each individual has the right to tell which part of the world they don't enjoy to fuck off and they will give only an inch for commerce but they will give no more! I may be cheap but I am no pushover!

Where did I say anyone should be given special privileges?
You and I clearly have differing viewpoints on when and how a person is allowed to indulge the sexual sense of him- or herself. You want to put it into neatly compartmentalised boxes. Well, if that works for you. But I don't personally think it works for anybody.
My sexuality and attractiveness are but one tool I have in my toolbox. I also have my intellect, my wit, my life experience, my specialised knowledge, etc. In any situation, I am free to draw on any of them as I see fit. When I was addressing an audience of scientists and educators earlier this week, I relied on all of them. Of course I wanted them to see me as a professional, provocative and entertaining lecturer. But I'd be lying if I said I wasn't also aware as I stood at the podium that I also was looking pretty fierce and fine, if I do say so myself. Because it's part of me, it's part of how I present myself to the world, and I am quite happy if several attendees went home thinking of me as "that hot chick who led the physics workshop."
I guess because I didn't have a religious upbringing per se and had pretty open, honest parents with regard to sex, I never learned that to be sexy or to have sexual feeling is something to feel ashamed of. Poor me, huh? I'm really twisted.
All that kind of thinking does is continue to keep everyone seperate and from being accepted as a whole species, instead of the gender they were born as or they color of their skin.

That's justthe problem with you "gender equality" soldiers. You always want people to be subjected to the same assumptions and expectations. There is no gender equality and there never will be. Gender equality is a ridiculous dream, the genders are different and always will be. She has tits and she can cry and make things happen, he's a man he can be brutal and applauded for it that's the way of things. Besides she gets default credit on account of Turd being a dick. I agree with what you're saying, that we are not all equal and we shouldn't be expected to be. We should not and will not have to be judged on the same level. Some people are smarter than others, some sexier, and we all have to use what we've got. Maybe Turd is bolder than others so he's got that going for him. You can't puish the smart kid for making good grades and making the grades unequal, you shoudln't punish the hot chick for being hot and making other people feel bad. Course Turd didn't really punish her, she got him kicked out. She won in that situation because she had more going for her. She had the tears and sympathy of the guards.

You can see into my mind, and know what I care about?
I never said she had the right to be pushy BECAUSE SHE WAS A WOMAN. What I said is that she is a salesperson, and possibly just a pushy PERSON. The pushiness has nothing to do with her being female. But his reaction as reported here seemed to have an awful lot to do with her being female.
I agree though that it ultimately is largely all speculative. Well, it's the internet, whaddaya gonna do, that's the way it goes. Dogpile on the rabbit.
I would point out that it was not me initially that 'made more out of his simple action' - I didn't honestly register Turd's story that much at first. It wasn't until all of the "good for you" gladhanding started that I took a closer look. And as I said, I am aware that I am taking it to the far end of the spectrum in terms of comparison - but as I said before to Q, it's the same line.

If it's "fuck off, you're annoying", that's one thing, and I'm really a-ok with that. What I had a problem with was the "She has no right to try and use her attractiveness to sell stuff" theme that emerged. The hell she doesn't. Sure she does. We all do. And I mean we all PEOPLE, not we all WOMEN, just to be clear.
I surely hope the day never comes that guys stop flirting with me - for sales or any other reason. It's a great part of being alive.
At the end of the day, what I don't get is why Turd didn't just, like...walk away. But then, we wouldn't have had all this fun. :)

Take that attitude to its extreme, and you end up living in a society that says that women ought to wear shapeless robes and veils - or better yet, not let out in public unaccompanied - lest they should try to inflame the passions of some poor hapless male.
from a feminist point of view i'm going to have to disagree with you.
women like "phone company girls" sabotage the reputation of the rest of the women in the world. if they treat themselves as objects, not only will they get treated as objects, so will other women.

what we have here is gender clash.
if this story happend just as Turd stated, then this girl was attempting to use her sexuality to sell a product that had nothing to do with sexuality or physical appearance. that is shallow and objectifies women for one. it should not be respected.
second, she was being rude and pushy. that should not be respected.
lastly, turd made a judgment call. he percieved her to be someone who was accustomed to getting what she wanted due to her physical attributes. he perceived her as presumptuous, sexually arrogant, and egotistical. this is not be respected.
he lashed out at her for numerous reasons: to show his anger at her presumption that her boobs allowed her to be as pushy as she wanted and would induce a sale.
to show anger at her rudeness.
to show anger and disapproval for he apparent overly inflated self esteem and to knock her down a peg, so as she would learn a lesson: shallow and physically egotistical is no way to go through life.
q nails it on the head.

(Although just what Turd's purer pursuit was at the mall, I do not know.)
no, no, not at all.
a lot of women don't seem to realise that women that use their sexuality affect all other women in a negative way.

zorra, you are absolutely free to disagree with me, as you well know, but I don't think you can claim THE "feminist point of view." As has already been touched upon, there isn't one singular feminist point of view.
You seem to equate "sexualization" with "objectification", that they are one and the same. My personal feeling is that this is an outdated notion that does women (and men) no favours. My sexuality is part of my total being, and I don't feel any need to put it into a little box and keep it up on the closet shelf until such time as everyone else decides it's 'appropriate'.
As I said before - if all you (not you you, the rhetorical you) are offering to the world is sex, and relying upon that above all other things, then of course that is a pretty poor showing. Yes that is unfortunately what some people do. But sex appeal + wit + intellect + compassion + skill + confidence etc, these are all good things to use in judicious combination.
Sex is not something I feel ashamed of, so why should I mind if people - men or women - respond to it?
My comment about the "covering up" in some societies where women are repressed is, I still believe, a valid one. As I said to psyz, it is an area of some scholarship and if you are interested I can poke around a bit and see if I can find some research for you that may illustrate and communicate my point more eloquently than it appears I am able to here. As you've clearly done some reading in the area of women's studies already, you may find it interesting. Or not. Either way, the offer is there if you would like to take me up on it.
I don't agree with your comment that 'it's as if the women's movement never happened.' I think that is an unfair statement against the many, many women (and men) who laboured for years to bring about the freedoms we now enjoy, and I find it insulting that you think I have no right to view myself as a grown adult woman who is allowed to make her own choices as to how and when I express the sexual aspect of my being.

while it may be an outdated notion, there is a problem with the way women are being portrayed.
but do you understand what i mean when i say that women sexualising themselves is counterproductive to women's progess?
how you express your sexuality is fine, but you have to accept there is an increasing attitude of complacency with women - that everything they could have achieved has been done, and many women have just "given up"
are you prepared to accept the fact that not only you will be judged by your actions, but so will women like me who have no desire to be seen as an object for sexual gratification?
i highly doubt if that if you were a man your sexuality would be an important aspect of your self.
with the example you used of women covering up in some countries, the same principle actually applies in western countries. women dress up, wear sexy clothes because they feel they have to and it's the only acceptable way. they are limited as well.
