What does he mean by knowing who he was at one time, and now he doesnt? Is this supposed to be a positive message that I am just missing? Does it mean he discovered himself while smoking cheeba, but now that he doesnt anymore, he no longer knows who he is? Because if that is the case, when he says "i stopped smoking cheeba that was part of the key", he would be implying that "the key" is not knowing who he is. I'm not trying to overly analyze this lyric but I really feel like this song is an important one and I want to understand what he is referring to.

I guess he means he played for a minute but doesn't anymore 'cos he knows who he is now and it not someone who plays, or he knew who he was for a minute, like a moment of enlightenment maybe.... But at a guess it's the first.

no no, the quotation is correct, and odie's right, he's talking about playing like he knows who he is, not saying that he did know who he is. he means that at one point he would act like he knew, but now he realizes that he doesn't and no longer plays.
