because the left is the first one to scream "censorship" when an "artist" is denied their rights, for whatever reason
this was the ulitimate censorship, this guy was murdered by a religious fanatic because he didnt agree with the artist's work, silenced forever.....
come on, you are smart, give us a good liberal approach to how to deal with this misunderstood person.....

and again I ask, where's all the regular Hollywood crowd that usually screams censorship when an artist doenst get their way, why are they doing this...
maybe not to offend any MUSLIMS???

As a so called 'liberal' let me just say that I think the guy is a fuckwit. He deserves to be punished (not the death penalty).
I think this guy is an evil arsehole. People like him are evil arseholes. When people do things like that they need to be put away for the public good.
In this situation, what is done is done. All is left for us to do is consider how we improve relations between the west and Islam? Can they be improved? Have we really sincerely tried?
How do we deal with injustice, including that perpetrated in the name of Islam without stoking up more hatred and distrust? We could spend all our time getting pissed at extremist Muslims. Yes, we could do that, but it isn't going to achieve anything.
We could get draconian on extremist Muslims, or just start viewing Muslims as the enemy but you can be as sure as hell that won't create any kind of peace.
The real question is what do you think can be done, Valvano? Don't get pissed at what other people are or aren't saying or doing. Offer ideas, offer solutions.
celebrities scream about censorship when it's a government entity / agency, or some religious or private organization that is large and wields some power. this is one guy who is a religious fanatic who was outraged over another's view of his religion. it wasn't about the arts as a whole, or about movies in general, it was specifically about this one person who made a particular movie that went against everything the murderer views as holy. period. a senseless act, not censorship.
duh.

This is another great post Guerilla. Good queries. I'd be curious to see what valvano says as well. I know what I think, but his thinking would be welcomed....

It's not censorship if it gets published. If someone kills you for what you publish, it's a crime and he gets punished. Your work still remains in the public arena, published.
Not the same.....

Perhaps Hollywood isn't complaining because that wouldn't really help anything. Is there a way to explain to this murderer your point of view? He already knows your point of view. He's not going to agree with you. Most people in the Western world haven't sorted out whether this would incite more violence or cause Muslim moderation. So punish him even though you can't punish him and that's the end of it.

Isnt that the point of most on the Left, though? If we all "understand" and "have compassion for" each other then all will be well and we can go live in a perfect, utopian, socialisitic world where money flows from the rich to the poor and all points of view are equal?
