Read about it here: "Wal-Mart Tweaks Willie's Reggae" (http://news.yahoo.com/s/eo/20050712/en_music_eo/16920)

Assholes.

I think this is a form of censorship & I don't care who Wal-Mart's customers are. Why didn't they just put a non-descript slipcover over it?

i hate walmart as much as anybody, but how is this censorship? if willie nelson wants to sale his cd through walmart, then he must meet their demands, be it in packaging, etc. nothing is preventing him from selling it through other channels.

you going to accuse a restaurant of censorship if they refuse to cook your order to your exact request, no matter how crazy it is?

the cry of "censorship" is thrown around with not much credence...

I thought the Wal Mart coverart of Undertow by Tool was funny. Its just a big UPC code that said "SORRY YOU BOUGHT THE CLEAN VERSION...PLEASE WRITE SUCH AND SUCH AN ADRESS FOR THE ACTUAL COVER ART"

Wal-Mart knows poor people hate to be offended. If your so broke you have no choice but to shop at Wal-Mart, then you can be manipulated too. It's the new economy, politicize while you profit.

Fucking Bitches, Willie should have seen this in his contract. I'm sure more than a few previous private farms have Wal-Marts standing on there acreage.

Stop buying everything from Wal-Mart. They want too much (http://www.benjaminedwards.net/Writings/walmart%20map%20CAP.jpg) for there cheap prices.

GMA']Who cares?
About the Willie Nelson CD? Prolly nobody we know.

About the Wal-Mart? Every corporate entity on the planet Earth and the private farmer who just got raped. And a few bystanders like me scratching their heads thinking WTF.

I guess I could say the same thing when us "libs" tell the ultra-conservatives their three ton SUVs are an irresponsible and wasteful purchase and they start to bitch and moan in response.

if willie nelson wants to sale his cd through walmart, then he must meet their demands, be it in packaging, etc. nothing is preventing him from selling it through other channels.
TECHNICALLY speaking you're correct--nothing is preventing him from selling it through other retailers. But again, Wal-Mart is the #1 seller of music nowadays and if he didn't sell it through them he (well, really Universal his label) could lose a lot of money. So basically Wal-Mart has the music people by the short-n-curlies. :(

And we all know about Wal-Mart's well documented bullying sales tactics with their suppliers.

This is a prime example--to me anyway--of capitalism being allowed to get out of control for the benefit of a select few.
