Mr Morrison is easily in my top ten artists of all goddamn time list and for good reason
last month I compiled quite possibly THE best Van Morrison/Them (early band he sang in) mix CD ever created and anyone who has received it has concured
spread the morrison love here
thank you.

Yeah, it's too bad that Brown Eyed Girl is the biggest cougar anthem this side of Shook Me All Night Long and Stuck In The Middle With You.
Of his albums, I enjoy Moondance and Saint Dominic's Preview most.

Yes, they make me feel guilty for liking it.
Which reminds me, I was gonna start a thread awhile back discussing songs that have been ruined or tainted by movies and/or commercials on TV, and Brown Eyed Girl from Sleeping With The Enemy came to mind. Not that that movie ruined the song, because it's definitely the cougars that should be held responsible, but it....I don't know...maybe that's why the thread never actually transpired. That or it had been done already. I forget now.

An older guy in my office walked over to my desk and said that his step son played music on a car trip and it really opened him up to some new stuff. I knew this was going to be good. The guy said that there was this bluesy guitar music by a guy named George something, and he wondered if I would know it. I waited while he tried to remember. I eventually put him out of his misery and said "George Thoroughgood?" and he said "you know him?!?!" Bad to the Bone had been so overused that it's shorthand for "bad movie music" now.

Ha.
I had my discman on at work this one time and this guy I work with who's in his early 50's asked me what I was listening to, and I replied, "The Velvet Underground", and he was like, "The what? What's with the names of some of these bands nowadays? That sounds awful." and I was like, "Yeah, I know".
Sorry. I know this is way off topic.

:D
My George Thoroughgood fan is a sweet guy but he likes to present himself as cooler than he was -- he always talking about what the country was like in the late 60s, but near as I can tell he was getting straight A's in college rather than manning the barricades at the revolution. I think he passed for my division's hip young liberal until I showed up and ruined things by being 15 years younger. Anyhow he is constantly surprised that I have heard of (and yes OWN) music made before my birth. I swear that I could mention the Stones and he'd say "you know the Stones? how did you hear of them?" He does this with movies too. He was trying to think of the name of his favorite actress from the 70s and couldn't describe her or think of a single movie she was in. I got Jill Clayburgh right on the second guess.
I would love to have someone list some of the more obscure Van Morrison songs worth listening to because I have only three albums and a greatest hits CD but I am woefully ignorant. My brother probably has everything so I could borrow if I knew what to ask for. Thanks.

TB sheets is the end all to obscure van morrison songs
like goddamn its good
Ill post a track list as soon as I get home cause I wanna make sure I put up the order right
the stuff he did with Them is fantastic, and two of the songs are sampled by Beck on "devils haircut" from "I can only give you everything" and "jackass" from "its all over now, baby blue" (originally a bob dylan song as well)

I really like the song, "You Gotta Make It Through the World" from the album, "A Period of Transition" more than any other Van Morrison song. Many consider it lousy, I always thought it was raw, honest and quite revealing.
Well let them take you for a clown
And they're bound to bring you down
You got to make it through the world if you can
Think they're doing you wrong
But you got here on your own
Sloppy and cool. Great sax. (y)
