I don't get bored of it. I think that everyone should own it. I don't think that T.Rex/Marc Bolan made anything else even remotely approaching it in terms of overall quality. Not a bad song on it. It probably even influenced Bowie's Ziggy Stardust, which gets acknowledged a lot more often, and is an amazing album, as well, but I'm not talking about Bowie. Bowie gets enough credit.
Opinions?

I like Electric Warrior more than any album Bowies ever done. You probably already knew this from our earlier discussions (http://www.beastieboys.com/bbs/showthread.php?t=38572&highlight=bowie+waits).
I've always been blown away that this album remains just below the radar. Maybe that is why I like it so much.

I agree with pretty much everything already said in this thread. It's my favorite glam album, and really does never get tiring for a 'pop' or 'hard rock' album, although it's much more than that.

Seeing as I respect both of your opinions, I'm glad that we're all on the same (figurative) page here. Now all this thread needs is a little conflict.

How does it compare to Jay-Z's 'Black Album'?

ok so here we go, I love bolan but he wasn't fucking with bowie when it came to output. Yeah electric warrior is a fantastic album but in the same period bowie has hunky dory, ziggy and pin ups (cover album or otherwise is unfuckwithable). Bowie and bolan were friends so why try to compare ? Bowie carried on to innovate whereas bolan got stuck in that glam mould

or one could say that bowie would jump from bandwagon to trendy bandwagon.. not that i am... but yeah, pin ups really isnt a very good album.

Mojo and Uncut make a big deal of this album, along with "The Slider." Given the ever-present connections made to Ziggy, I reckon I should add these albums to my "CDs to Get" list.

hey, its a T-Rex thread!
electric warrior isnt bad, at all, ofcourse... but how could you have made a thread about EW instead of The Slider? Starting out with Metal Guru, which could easily be one of their best songs? TS wins over EW. period.

i'd say that prolly shows how little you know. Bowies version of sorrow is one of his finest moments. And saying he jumped from bandwagon to trendy bandwagon, would again be a big pile of bullshit, bowie has influenced countless artists and remained fresh (mostly) throughout his career

No way. I don't mind The Slider, but Electric Warrior is near flawless.

Yeah, I wasn't really putting them in the same category. I was comparing the albums Bowie put out at the time to Electric Warrior. You can tell that Bowie was influenced by EW. I know they were peers, contemporaries, friends and whatever. I'm saying that people talk about Ziggy all the time, but Electric Warrior doesn't get the same level of praise, while it's clearly what influenced Ziggy in the first place.

yeah i'd go with that, a lot of people make these comments about bowie and i would agree that his influences are fairly obvious BUT the sound he created was always uniquely bowie
the thing with ew and bolan generally is that he had no impact in the states. I've never understood that because he was just the archetypal rock star, and america seemed to lap that up. Maybe he just didn't put the time into touring and thats why he never broke over there.

I have always loved Electric Warrior (I danced myself right out the womb, well that's me!). Pity my Slider got stolen way back, and I haven't found a new copy of it.
I remember when I got my first cassette recorder and I taped T-Rex from the telly with a microphone and mum came in from the balcony shutting the door a bit too loud and I was furious!
Then when I was 13 we moved to a new town and I sold my T-Rex poster which I've always regretted.

you're a complete dolt. i'm a huge bowie fan, retard; i was merely pointing out an opinion held by many critics and not me

once again, you are an idiot, you have no idea what my musical taste is, or what is in my collection. you just made an assumption.
oh and for the record... Low, Heroes, and Scary Monsters are all better albums than pin-ups.. actually any of his 70's albums are.

We used to cover "Jeepster," which is a nifty song. My favorite, though, is probably "Rip Off."
But, yeah... the danced myself right out the womb line is great one.
And "Bang a Gong" is classic.

Jeepster's great and I like Rip Off, but I don't really ever listen to Bang A Gong much. Monolith and Life's A Gas are easily my two favorites.

First time I ever heard "Bang a Gong" was on my brother's K-Tel Heavy Metal album.
...which also featured the Allman Brothers and The Eagles.

Electric Warrior is easily in my top 10 ever, its really summin special. I also really like "Dandy in the underworld", its got some great tracks too, but EW and TS are absolutley brilliant.
As much as i love Bolan and the gang, i love Bowie more. Sometimes people forget what Bowies done. Ziggy i can understand being overated, but its the concept, persona and performance which is historically brilliant and blew my mind when i first saw him.
No one has coloured in the mainstream like Bowie has, and he deserves as much praise as he gets. Especially as he is still releasing brilliant and relevant albums recently.
And The Labyrinth kicks ass :D
