which overrated movie sucked even harder????
i give the nod to lost in translation, that movie was so boring and stupid. It just dragged on with nothing happening. i think sofia coppola only likes being a part of really bad movies, and directing even worse movies
garden state kind of drags a bit and doesnt really do anything but it has funny parts and lines every now and then, and the music isnt bad.

Garden State was cheeseball. Lost In Translation, however, was magnificently understated and deserved the accolades it got.

Garden State was the biggest letdown ever. no substance. just a lot of scenes that didn't even run together. i'll bet that puffy-faced director guy thought he was being really intelligent and all, but seriously, just thinking about that movie pisses me off.
Lost In Translation was really good in a lot of ways, but i didn't enjoy the trivialization (is that a word?) of Japanese culture. just to get a few laughs...but it definitely had a good feel to it, and some nice cinematography.

For once, I have to agree with that guy with my same name. Garden State only had a decent soundtrack going for it.
Lost in Translation was definitely overrated, but interesting and tried to make a statement about something.

both were fantastic movies. What kind of an imbecile would say that? Can you provide statistics or sources to back that up? Maybe you should go do some research before you come on here and post about shit you obviously known nothing about. Go to www.gardenstatehadnoplot.com and let me know if you need help with the big words.

i haven't seen garden state but i liked lost in translation. although some of the stereotypes were a bit (n)
i loved lost in translation - probably since i was in a shitty marriage and was alone a lot and was in the midst of transforming into a different person, i completely related to it...
garden state, however, WAS a huge let down, but as marsdaddy said, the soundtrack was good...

lost in translation, on the other hand, was pretty boring.Figures. The brits get everything backwards -- driving on the wrong side of the street, calling a leash a lead, etc. Or maybe the people in Garden State had imperfect teeth so she could identify with them?

ok....then elaborate on what made this movie so brilliant than.
enlighten us (lb)
ok. i'm tired and it is way past my bed time. here are just a few thoughts...
touching, moving, imaginative, well-observed, brilliantly acted, funny, surreal... i seem to remember the ending was a bit woolley, but other than that i really couldn't fault it and i'd watch it at least twice again.
i just loved watching the relationship between these two people unfold on the screen.
ok, that's all.
good night (lb)

Lost In Translation was one of the worst movies I've ever seen. I don't even remember why I hated it because I watched it so long ago. I wouldn't see it again though.
Garden State was okay.
I don't understand who deemed these films artistic masterpieces so every wanna-be movie critic could come out from the woodwork and tell all their friends how great this movie was and how they discovered the true potential of it. bah.

So are you saying that after sitting in my netflix queue for weeks and after just arriving yesterday, I shouldn't watch Garden State? When it came yesterday, I thought of this thread.
If I liked Lost in Translation, which I did, will I like Garden State?
(I already heard someone rehash one scene from Garden State that made me laugh. About a kid at a funeral and how his aunt made him try on a sweater that she made and she didn't want to wait til after the funeral because it might be another 15 years or something before she sees him again. I didn't do that scene justice, I'm sure, but when someone told me about it, they did and it made me laugh. Is the rest of the movie like that? I like dry humor.)

The two movies don't have a lot in common, really. I think most people think Lost In Translation is boring because they they don't appreciate the restraint the film exhibits. Garden State, on the other hand, tries way too hard. I wouldn't call the humor dry either. But that's just my opinion.

Garden State sucks dicks at a bachelor party while Lost in Translation is a pretty good flick.
Nah, that's just my opinion. I actually laughed a lot during Lost in Translation and enjoyed watching the relationship between the two build and grow. Plus there was just something about the way that Bill Murray must have been feeling that I could relate to a little bit when I saw the movie. Being taken some weird place where nobody really seems to understand what's going on with you... yeah. All that jazz. Fuck Garden State. What a piece of shit.

Nothing to "get," exactly. It's a 140 minute misfire.
Okay... 125 minutes; about 15 minutes total was pretty okay.
