just curious.
I had this super bad cough/sore throat (coughing to the point my body would hurl) thing going on for months last year. Then I've gotten a sore throat this year a few months ago. Now I have one again with bad coughing, but at this point, it's just my tonsils. I looked in the mirror, and my right tonsil is so swollen that it's TOUCHING my uvula.
>:/ I wonder if I need to look in to getting my tonsils removed or something.

I read it the same way! :o
Yeah, mine were taken out years ago during an ear operation, my adenoids have been removed too. The surgeon thought he "might as well" to see if it helped my hearing, well, I'm still as deaf as a post!
There's always tonsilitis going around at my school so yay crazy doctors. (y)

I thought they only removed tonsils in severe cases these days... I remember my sister had hers out though when I was a kid... My Mom bought her hella ice cream because I guess that's one of the things you can eat but, my sister's throat hurt so much that she didn't want to eat anything so I ate all her ice cream. It was awesome! (y) Hurt throat felt better again in a couple weeks... I think.

I'm talking like, 1993, when I was about 5? Something like that. I can't believe your sister was allowed ice-cream, I was nill by mouth/no liquids for like 23134423 hours. :(

Yup she could have ice cream and soup and pudding... crap like that. I'm not sure if it was the doc that said that or my Mom (who outranks the doc because she's OLD SCHOOL!) but my sister was in too much pain to eat it.

my sister just had that sleep apnea surgery the other day.
I know they actually removed her uvula, and I believe her tonsils as well
They did a sleep study on her where she had to sleep at the hospital one night while they monitored her.
She's older than me, I don't know exactly how old.
I don't ask, and she doesn't tell me.
I had tonsilitis more times than I can count when I was a kid.
My tonsils are soo huge the make my doctor chuckle everytime he looks at them.
My childhood doctor wouldn't recomend me to have them removed
My current doctor begs me to have them removed.
I know I snore when I sleep, so maybe I'll have to have sleep apnea surgery one day as well.

My sisters sleep study showed she was being partially wakened by snoring hundreds of times a night, which was preventing her from going into REM sleep. She was always tired and now she knows why.
Another interesting thing we learned is that they consider it "Normal" to stop breathing 5 times or less during the night.
She stopped breathing over 30 times during the study.
Aimee tells me I snore sporadically during the night and ocassionally stop breathing, so I'm sure I have sleep apnea.
I also work nights, so I don't get all that much sleep as it is.
So I'm never sure weather I'm tired because of sleep apnea, or just lack of sleep.

i'll bet anything it's sleep apnea. you're depriving your brain of oxygen! it's not good. get it fixed before it becomes a bigger problem.

You have Health Ins. right?
Go get checked for sleep apnea.
If you have it the Ins. will have to pay to get your uvula and tonsils removed

is it really that huge of a concern?
My boyfriend told me that I snore a lot. I do wake up randomly for no reason. Or am woken up by my snoring. I also snore no matter WHAT position I am in. *shrug* I dunno! Perhaps I will look in to it.
Meanwhilist, now when I talk it hurts the tonsils and in my ears. It's irritating as all hell.
I would enjoy an ice cream diet I think.

No  it's mine!
Dude, my pain got so bad earlier that I could not move my head/neck area without horrible pain. I was crying in hospital (and mind you, of the times I've been in hospitals with a broken hand and bleeding inside my intestines...I did not cry) it was so awful. They medicated me, thank God. That's the only reason why I am able to put together a half-way coherent thought.
My regular doc can't see me till the 22nd. I said fuck that noise, I am going back to Urgent Care tomorrow and demand that they rip out my tonsils.
Otherwise, the little dog gets it!

You only have two tonsils, right?
I think you should name them Ferdinand and Lawrence. They can start up a British-based comedy on the WB this fall. $$

I feel bad now. I'll share, but we need seperate bowls and stuff. I may give the sickness to you otherwise.
Gratzi.
And Diana, that's a MONEY idea. (lb) (!)

Granted, I'm no doctor, but I don't think they can operate on your tonsils while they're infected. You'll probably have to take the antibiotics and get that infection cleared up before you can start to discuss surgery.

hmm, okay. I really have no idea how it works, so that's good to know. As long as they give me something to make the pain go away, that's fine too. Last night I was coughing lots and it's to the point that my tonsils were almost touching. I had a hard time trying to fall asleep and I had to take deep breaths a lot to get a good amount of air in :/

I'm no doctor, but I did sleep at a Holiday Inn Express last night so I'm pretty sure I'm right. :D
