There are some movies that I loved when I was little that I now realize are complete pieces of cinematic excrement (i.e. Howard the Duck). Then there are some that I loved as a youngster and I still love today...

These are movies you loved as a child but still love today? It seems like from people's answers they're going for movies they loved as a child that were actually released decades before they were born. Probably because you people grew up with videotape and cable. :)
Movies I saw in a theater as a child and still love today:
Freaky Friday (Jody Foster version with Barbara Harris, who I worship, as the mom)
North Avenue Irregulars
Jaws
Young Frankenstein
Blazing Saddles (my dad was a huge Mel Brooks fan)
The Sound of Music (it was a rerelease I'm sure)
Star Wars
Grease
Airplane
Foul Play
Raiders of the Lost Ark at a drive-in but I was in my late teens by then
I never saw Close Encounters when it was released. :o Or E.T. :o
If I was going to add movies I saw on TV as a kid it would include a lot of Hitchcock, classic screwball comedies, Marx Bros., and Fred and Ginger movies. Plus Auntie Mame.

The Bad Seed
That movie scared the shit out of me when I was a kid.
Two rewarding things about being a parent: waiting for just the right time to introduce your kid to your favorite books and favorite movies. And the bonus is watching him love those books and movies.
I'm doing that with my kid with literature rather than just pop fiction.
He's working a shift where he's allowed to read if there are no customers. He works long days, so he doesn't have time to go to the library. He asked me to recommend books.
I leave a book propped against his bedroom door. Maybe a day or two later, that book is propped against my bedroom door, which signals to me that he's ready for another book. I browse the bookshelves and my own stacks and leave another one for him. He's read about 20 books in two months.
He's got Confederacy of Dunces now.
Salinger's on deck.

I agree with some of your choices, particularly Raising Arizona, The Princess Bride and Russ Meyer's Supervixens, but how has Labyrinth stood the test of time? I think it was pretty gay even at the time. Why do you people always talk about Labyrinth? Is it about Bowie's scrotum sack practically tearing through the lycra pants he rocked in that movie? I don't get it.
I'd have to say:
The Sting
Heathers
Wall Street
The Goonies
Back To The Future
Blade Runner
Fast Times At Ridgemont High
Revenge Of The Nerds
First Blood
The Karate Kid
Taxi Driver
Along with most of the usual John Hughes films already mentioned.

I noticed that he's two-timing Toole with Hawking.
He's not fully content unless he's backing fiction right up against non-fiction.
I do the same thing.

Agreed.
Eddie Murphy gets dissed pretty regularly now, but in the day, he was the shit...
48 Hours
Delirious
Beverly Hills Cop
Trading Places
All classics. Later, some of his crack-ass ideas sucked, but he still DOMINATED in Bowfinger.
Plus, I've still never laughed harder in my life than when I first saw Delirious...
Now THAT's A fire!
