Ive always had this tendency of thinking about my life today, my current present, as if i was in the future looking back at my past, and imagining the feelings that would evoke in me, since when we think about the past it usually tends to evoke stronger emotions than what youre living in the present...that whole mellancholic effect memories have on us. And i dont necessarily mean complicated/serious situations but simple daily things like tv shows i watch could be...i think about me in the future, looking back at all these situations that im living right now....and last nite i was thinking about the time computers/technology consume in our lives and what this signifies in the quality of our lives in general...
Things like the possibility of watching tv through the computer screen meaning theres no fighting over the control with your brother, the way it personalized something that can be done in a group.Theres no hurrying to get home on time for the concert being aired at 8 when you can just download it. theres no smell of cooking oil left on the envelope from having sealed it while in the kitchen in an e-mail. theres no getting your finger stained by ink from reading the newspaper in newyorktimes.com. theres no not lending a paper or document for fear of it being lost since theres only one copy, when theres e-mail forwards and theres consequently no feeling a certain power by whoevers owning that paper. theres no not finding the cereal isle and later feeling like an idiot cuz it was the first one you looked in when theres www.safeway.com. theres no beautiful feeling of uniqueness during those 3 minutes one of your favorite songs comes on the radio and telling everyone to shut up when theres kazaa/emule/soulseek. thers no thinking the operators voice reminded you of your mothers when you can order the flowers online. And when, from the future, i saw all these situations starting to slowly build, I felt a little bit disgusted.
Anger, anxiety, sadness, frustration, etc are just as important as things like happiness and tranquility to make our lives fuller, richer and complete. Emotions/senses... simple, quick and ephimerous daily emotions are so necessary and to some extent in danger of semi-extinction due to the excessive use we tend to give to computers and technology. I dont want them to fix everything for us.
And is that not worth worrying about? Is long term so difficult and unattached from us to affect us?
Mediocre. Dont fool yourself if you think you experience your senses and emotions to the maximum everyday... mediocracy is something people shuold fight against more often...in conversations, in our general dedication to simple things, during vacations, in birthday celebrations, in singing, in working, in everything thats simple and common and repeated everyday. We only have one adolescence, one mid30s, one decade of 40s, we only turn 50 once, we only grow old once. Why do so many people permit themselves to be so mediocre throughout life? Right now, this moment.
my point is, feel more. use your 5 senses and feelings to the max so when you look back on this one time deal, your memories will be richer and more vivid instead of technologically dull, blunt and colorless. Were humans and we need to be working at 100% becasue for the moment were making history. For the moment....i wonder how much use we will give technology in 20 years.
