I saw this guy Bernard Goldberg on the Daily Show and then I just saw him on the O'Reilly Factor which I always tune into for a laugh. O'Reilly's 'interview' was basically a discussion about this apparently extremely unethical interview on the Donny Deutsch show on CNBC, in which Goldberg was apparently "ambushed" by 5 liberals and then the footage was edited so it looked rude when he told one of them to "shut up." Of course, O'Reilly, as a emblem of proper and ethical journalism basically spent the entire interview fellating this guy. Anyway, this is not a diatribe on O'Reilly (although I thought John Stewart's comedy show conducted a better interview than O'Reilly) but rather an expression of curiosity about this book. Since I haven't read it I am not going to pass judgement on it or the author, although I do have some issues with the very idea of this book. Mind you, I don't care that the man clearly has a conservative set of views - that's fine, I would have the same problem with the same type of position being taken in the opposite direction. Does it strike anyone else as blatant hypocrisy that someone can compile a list of "cultural elitists" while writing a book entitled 100 People Who Are Screwing Up America? Isn't that right there the epitome of cultural elitism? Aside from that, from my research this guy appears to have been on 48 Hours (a sort of murder mystery show for anyone who doesn't know) and Real Sports. Am I missing something? When did sports journalists become the leading upholders and preachers of moral code? Has anyone actually read this book who can provide some insight?

All I know is that Al Franken is supposed to be on that list. Now I don't care if you agre or disagree with Franken, but it seems a bit much to say he is one of 100 people screwing up the country. That gives him a bit too much credit, me thinks. Now if he winds up running for Congress, then it might make some sense. But as of now he is a comedian witha radio show.
EDIT-Al Franken is number 37. It's actually in the title of the book. (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0060761288/qid=1122025550/sr=8-6/ref=pd_bbs_sbs_6/002-7727584-3782455?v=glance&s=books&n=507846)
Actually, now that I say that I picture Rush Limbaugh who has had quite an influence. So maybe it's not a huge stretch to put him on that list. He might not be that high on it, although he's most likely in the top ten. Really, even if I was a conservative, I would give him an honorable mention at most.

Yeah, that was the funniest Daily Show I've seen in about 6 months. :)

Ah yes, now I remember him from Real Sports ... Was wondering where I had seen him before.
Stewart playfully took him apart.

Stewart raked him over the coals, that's for sure. However, Stewart was tough, but very fair.
And I do give some credit to Goldberg for taking Stewart's jibes like a man. I could see other conservative voices getting pretty unreasonable in that same spot.
Either way, Goldberg wasted his time writing that book. There's no way Barbra Streisand is screwing up America more than Karl Rove is.

BUT THE STUFF ON HER BLOG!
I wish it was me on there.
I would ask if he though culture was better in the 50's, when he moronically says yes, BAM!, hit him with Amos and Andy.
He would have been weeping.

I think what I loved most about the interview was Jon asking "Don't you think it's more important we focus on our government's actions, rather than just corruptivity elsewhere? I mean, Hollywood doesn't make decisions, so why are you focusing on what they do?"
and he just kept replying "But they're LIBERALS and they CURSE! What are our children going to do if people curse? I don't care what the government does! These people have potty mouths!"
Sigh.

My favorite part was when Stewart giggled like a girl, but I can't remember what made him do it. It was just so natural because he simply lost it with all the silliness.

My Favorite part is when Goldberg proposes the idea of a hypothetical 'bigot channel' and John Stewart says "We already have that" and then when asked he says "NBC" and Goldberg goes, "You are....You are so......okay so let's talk about the bigot channel." :D
