View Full Version : You know, watching these images on the news from Niger

I'm finding this very distressing. I don't knnow how much it is being shown in other countries, but here in the UK they've been following some of the same families through the week and each day, at least one child that was there the day before has slipped away.
Imagine watching your baby die slowly of starvation, and being completely powerless to do anything about it. :(
Sometimes I just don't know what to make of this world, I really don't.

What's really sad is that the mass starvation resulting from this current drought could have, to some degree, been prevented. Especially since the Nigerians first appealed for help with their reserves in 2003. Not to mention that the drought and locust infestation hit 10 months ago. Meanwhile, relief efforts only started coming in in the last month or so.

I know. And the UN says it will be another two months before they will be in full rescue operation.
It just makes my heart feel so heavy, seeing all those women desperately trying to storm the aid compounds, with their tiny nearly-lifeless little children in their arms.
