Where the hell did these come from? I mean, they were never released. How did they circulate? Did Mike D let some kid borrow a tape in 1987 or something?

The songs did appear in two films.

Desparado was in Tougher Than Leather and The Scenario was in a Christian Slater movie...i think it was Pump Up The Volume.

the Desperado I've heard is clearly ripped from the Tougher than leather movie, is there a version that isn't?

yes, there is a full version that isn't from TTL. but it sounds like it was recorded out of a tin can. and it's only a mono track, too. so you miss the 'Desperado' whispers as well as some other parts that make the song, i feel.

i've been hoping to get my clutches on a copy for quite some time. but, hey. i'd be more than happy to share the tin can version with you if you're interested.

yes, there is a full version and I own it. the copy thats been circulating for the past 7 years was my doing and I apoligize for the bad copy but I knew the person I was giving it to was going to put it on napster and I had to protect my investment.

Just to clear this up . . . You got that copy from me. AND, you were supposed to keep it on the down low. . . .

I was selling sealed copies of MCA and Burzootie on eBay back in the late 90s and I had a Beastie Boys mixtape called "Theories of the Boom Bip" or some such shit that I was throwing in. The full mix of Desperado was on that tape and I didn't realize it until it was already sold. There were a few other people who I traded it to because they were hard core fans (Dustin, Princess G, etc.)

So, there are a few other people out there with the analog copies of the copy I had (which was modified prior to me sending it out anyway.) The master copy was super quiet and I boosted the levels and I think I cut out Rick Rueben talking at the begining and fucked with some eqs.

The Scenario was on some vinyl pressing for Europe I believe. I have it, just have to dig it up. It was put out by Grand Royal. As far as Desperado, I thought I was a hard core fan but never heard of it. Always heard of the Scenario from "Pump Up the Volume", at one time I think that was like the holy grail of Beastie Boys songs.
