and I can't really stop. I used to go shopping for vinyl every couple of weeks. And whenever I went on vacation, I'd find a local vinyl shop. But, over the past couple of years I haven't had the time, and the local vinyl shops have less and less "old school".

So, I started searching for things on Ebay. I've pretty much found everything that was missing from my collection that I wanted. And on balance, I've probably spent the same amount as if I'd gone to various vinyl shops.

Anyone else Ebay? For what?

We're in the exact same boat. If you're having problems stopping already, definitely don't sign up for Paypal, man. Money instantly disappears from bank accounts and it doesn't even feel like you've spent a red cent.

I just spent $41 the other day on a whole bunch of vinyl. Then I caught myself looking at more records earlier today as well... I gotta restrict myself or something, man. An eBay tithing rod might be in order.

i have done a bit of baseball/hockey card collecting through ebay. i look for the real cheap lots of a couple hundred cards and then sort through them when i get them and try to build complete set's from what i have bought. i havent bought anything for a while though, the last one i did buy was an 8,000 card lot that took me about 3 weeks to look through.

i was actually looking at vinyl on there today. i am also debating whether a 100 cd lot is worth $50 for me to try and salvage something decent and sell back to maybe make a few bucks...

For the vinyl I'm interested in, ebay is rarely a good deal. I lose most of the auctions because they go for higher than I'm willing to pay. I've bid on some of the same albums a dozen times. A lot of the vinyl on ebay is rereleases, and some are clearly bootlegs. I still think it's fun to watch because it makes me feel that my vinyl is worth something. :)

I've bought a few used DVDs super cheap, but you have to watch out for the people who charge ridiculous amounts for shipping.

I also buy out of print books (but not rare ones) and a few prints.

And tickets to sold out concerts.

I think ebay is fascinating because of what people collect.

Watch out for fake Paypal emails. I've been getting a lot of them lately.

I ebay for cheap cds, guitars, guitar gear, posters and occasionally video games from old systems ie snes, sega saturn etc.

My best buy was 5 inxs cds and a rare cassette from the early 80s for 5 bucks, all with cases etc, total of 10 bucks including postage

I buy quite a lot from eBay, usually vinyl but also Beastie memorabilia and quite a few T-shirts (got the NY gig crew T-shirt yesterday), magasines with Beasties or BRMC on and a lot of other BRMC stuff as well.
I've been trying to get hold of Hoodoo Gurus DVD and Spike Jonze DVD, or the box with Spike, Michelle Gondry and Chris Cunningham, but the prices are usually too high. There's been quite a few good deals now, so hopefully I get them pretty soon. The postage is usually the worst. That's why I stopped selling (mainly gig posters from Sweden) because Post Office put the prices up. I think my best sale was a Silver Ginger Five guitar pick for $25....

Here's (http://img308.imageshack.us/img308/2268/skivkpijuli4vl.jpg) something that I got last week.

I bought a video for my kid from ebay. They didn't take paypal, just money orders. I sent mine in after I won the bid.

Instead of getting a package in the mail, I got two letters. One was from a woman at the address where I sent the money order. The other was from her 10-year-old son who, he said, did not have permission to use his parent's ebay account. He had such little-kid handwriting. :D

It's a hard addiction to break. I kept spending money on old school adidas jackets and stuff like that.

I got beat out on a red one with black stripes. I was PISSED.

I then realized if losing a bid on a jacket ruined my day, it was time to walk away.

oh--yeah, I should have said that. The boy included the money order in his letter.

The mother probably would have done that herself had she not apologized so many times. I think it really traumatized her that he did that.

(I wrote a letter back to each of them. With the kid, I took a more stern approach so that I didn't undermine the mother's lessons with him. With her, though, I joked about how fun and surprising it can be to raise boys. They both seemed like really nice people.)

Money instantly disappears from bank accounts and it doesn't even feel like you've spent a red cent.Yeah, I signed up for PayPal a while back. I actually bought some computer parts off ebay, was shipped the wrong item and I returned it. I forgot that money was in my PayPal account and realized it only after I started ebaying for vinyl. It was BETTER than finding a $20 in my winter jacket pocket 6 months after last wearing it!

I, too, am a vinyl DJ -- I call myself a bedroom DJ.

Skye, I go outside as often as you tell the truth.
