Yeah, I hate that too. The lamasil ones where the little hobgoblin lifts up the toenail and runs underneath? They had a newspaper article about how that commercial disturbs a lot of people, and yet they still haven't pulled it.

I think my biggest problem with it is that I've stubbed my toe really hard before and part of my nail has been broken upwards the same way and it brings back disturbing and painful memories.

I hate commercials where it's a married couple and they're really passive agressive and have this uneasy banter where it seems like they hate eachother. there's one for an online banking thing, and this one about a lady and her used car, it goes like this:

(wife enters kitchen, home from running errands, husband sits with his back to her slumped in a chair watching t.v.)

wife: hi honey, I'm back from the dealer

husband: yeah, getting burned by that used car (eyes roll)

wife: actually (blah blah blah stuff about warrantees and maintence package)

husband: (mocking, disgusted face, rolling eyes)

wife: in fact, I love my certified pre-owned car...almost as much as I love you (fake smile)

husband: pfft (unimpressed, doesn't look back, makes a sarcastic face and continues flipping channels)



uhh, okay. Like, "hey, that lady is really smart and her husband's a complete asshole, she really showed him! now I'm pumped as fuck to buy a used car from that place!"

As I work in advertising and I've seen the shitty mindset behind all advertising I naturally hate all commercials. I hate trying to convince people they can flll their spiritual void or lack of personality by buying stuff that a) they don't need and b) is possibly bad for them and c) is definitely bad for the planet.

But to be specific I hate any commercial that tries to put down the free and natural alternatives - antacid commercials that tell you stress, lifestyle,etc have nothing to do with acid indigestion; products that mock people who do yoga and live healthy lifestyles; pharmaceuticals that ridicule natural remedies and take them out of context.

I despise any advertising to do with mobile phones especially:
a) shitty ringtone and download commercials. How many masts are out there frying our brains just to keep up with demand for that shit? Anyone under the mental age of eighteen should not be allowed a mobile phone.
b) ads that tell you you can talk for cheaper or free as though there is only one way to talk and thats through your mobile. If I want to talk for free I'll do it face to face.

I also hate commercials were the cool, suave, aloof Brit looks disdainfully at the ridiculous foreigner because only cool, suave, aloof Brits would ever use the product being advertised.

The worst I ever heard was one on radio for a drink called Solstice. It was one of those so called 'energy drinks' and it's hard sell was that everyone in the world was out to get you, that it was a vicious dog eat dog world and only Solstice could keep you sharp enough to stay ahead of the pack. Totally fucked. Swore I'd never ever drink it.

My friend Jacob and I went playfully splashing through the surf when we were at the beach in May, singing "IT'S A BRAND-NEW DAY!" as loud as we could. I think we scared some of the beach-dwellers.

I have a new least favorite commercial now. It's for the Cox Communication parental guidance thing, where you go on to their site and say that you don't want your kids watching certain kinds of shows because of language or nudity and John Walsh is telling you how you can go about setting it up. Right, your kid dies, which is awful, but that means that you are some how an authority on what is right or wrong for other people's children. "Protect your kids." Yeah, because Sex and the City is the reason your son died. Ugh, I really hate that guy. :mad:
