just don't get a road bike
you mean the kind that they use on those races?
i was thinking about going down to this one shop and seeing what they say. apparently they will fix your bike up free forever if you get it from them. so thats a bonus.

be careful if you do, please. these days, riding a bike is really dangerous.

No one else has heard of them either - because a female race team has never existed in The Tour De France ! You are sooo fucking full of shit.

A kid got killed at the end of my street about 3 weeks ago. After that, I thought I should ride my bike more, because since it was all over the news, drivers will be more conscientious...for the time being. I go riding at night, with my awesome headlamp. And I obey traffic patterns, and don't go riding with jackass high school friends who dare me to go across the crosswalk when the little man is blinking red, like that guy did. He got hit by a New Yawk driver, too. Figures.

I went for the most amazing cycle ride yesterday. I was trying to find a shortcut to Loch Lomond avoiding traffic. I got up and out at 6.30am and almost had the roads to myself.
As I discovered a road I had never been on, with stunning views of the Kilpatrick Hills I found myself cycling along singing at the top of my voice with a big grin on my face.
For some reason the world is just that bit more beautiful seen from a bike than from amy other mode of transport.
My current bike is a hardtail mountain bike. I got a mountain bike because I didn't know what I needed when I bought it. Most folk I know like to point theirs down a steep hill and hang on for dear life. Can't say I enjoy that very much.
Probably next time I get a bike it will be a road bike. PS. I had heard about that Australian women's team thing last week from someone who is into bike sports - so I am taking it that its true.

Maybe if you do, keep to the trails and cemetaries for awhile.
Car drivers here don't like to share the road without warning-beeping bikers or hey-baby-beeping you and maybe angry-beeping you. There are lots of other things they do that make it dangerous, too, like opening car doors without looking and turning right across the bike lane and cutting you off.
I've had enough flips and close calls that I don't ride to work now unless it's really early in the morning and light enough outside that I can get & stay on the trails.

You know i'm french and i have seen le tour de france a lot in real,
and i can tell you that men who are on bikes are some kinds of E.T.
(lance armstrong particularly...) ...
moreover, a "nice bike" is very very expensive... just a wheel of competiton
cost maybe 700€   so...

I've been thinking lately about getting a bike for commuting to and from work. Apparently bike sales in London have been on a major upswing over the past two weeks - no surprise there I guess, really. In the past I've always thought it might be too intimidating, but if there are more and more people doing it then maybe I'd feel a bit safer about it. Dunno.
Actually maybe what I really want to do is buy a Vespa. A cute little powder blue one.

i love my road bike...its the only thing to get if you mainly want a commuter bike. I found my mountain bike too heavy and clumsy for commuting, but the road bike is so light and easy to ride, I will never go back to a mountain bike (except to use it for what it was designed for...)

ones that are expensive are either equipped with tons of bells and whistles.. or are for people really serious about the sport... you can get a decent bike without spending too much... that is fine for regular use
