...I just mentioned to my co-worker the other day that Simon really had genuine poetry in him.

Besides Graceland (which should be proof enough for anyone), listen to "Duncan" off his first solo album. (That's what spurred the observation.) What a superb song.

I kind of think it's a prologue to "America."

Wow--I just looked at this thread title and thought, "I'm not going in there because someone's going to piss all over Paul Simon and I don't want to see it." That's what I get for assuming.

I ignored PS during the 80s & 90s--I never listened to Graceland until a few years ago, really. I think it's because I associated him with my ma--she was a big S&G fan--and maybe it was just hard for me to hear his new stuff without thinking of her.

She was a bigger Garfunkel fan but I didn't miss much by avoiding him, I think. (I do remember really liking Angel Clare though and even if some of his music is just bad, his voice is so gorgeous.)

I can only remember 50 ways to leave your lover. I used to borrow records from my Swedish teacher (she was pretty young to be a teacher and she had rather good taste in music, I borrowed some other records from her as well) several times, but never realised to tape it. Silly me.

Graceland is a stone classic. What an achievement, and how great that must have felt coming 25 years into his career...

Most pop music performers rarely get the chance to have such a huge artistic and commercial success in one fell swoop, let alone something so big it singlehandedly resurrects a career. Simon was pretty much drifting at that point -- Hearts and Bones, One Trick Pony...

Too late, this thread now enters the Guinness Book of World Records for "Longest Internet Thread on Paul Simon Unflamed".

The record now stands at 12.

Congratulations to all those who participated.

DAMN! How did I miss this thread?

I've never been able to love him. I like several S & G songs, but I can't listen to Paul's solo stuff. He's a lot like Sting. Plus he's been a huge ass about Art.

Illinois is my favorite state, and I was just not a fan of his political platforms.

Even an honest mistake nullifies the intention of an honest and open discussion which does not flame Paul Simon.

All involved should be estactic, writhing in orgasmic glee, you've accomplished what looks to be a real and authentic thread that shattered the old World Record of 4 posts.

The new "Longest Internet Thread on Paul Simon Unflamed" record is here and stands at 12 posts, more than twice the previous record, in fact 3 times the previous record.

I don't want to armchair this but.....I think it was genius to use the Beastie Boys site rather than the actual Paul Simon site, which is routinely checked by Art Garfunkel for any such activity.

Once again, "Cheers (y) "

I would be shocked if they didn't put you on file, your name is perfect for the Guinness folks, jabumbo! Now you have the added pressure of always looking over your shoulder to see if Garfunkel is there, lurking with his hair and tennis shoes.

Simon is one of my favorites. I love that he has really poppy upbeat melodies, but some of his words are so dark. He has some serious issues.

She comes back to tell me she's gone
As if I didn't know that
As if I didn't know my own bed
As if I'd never noticed the way she brushed her hair
From her forehead
