I say to my dad like last year when I first discovered them, "Do you know who the Beastie Boys are?" and he smiles and says "You listen to them?" I go "Do you like them?" then he says "Yep" and he actually had Lisenced to Ill in his cd collection and I never knew about it! :D My dad's 42 by the way.

Old people are generally put off by rap music but I personally know one who changed her opinion of that after having heard particular Beasties songs firsthand--she had to read the lyrics but she got them and liked what she heard and then SHE went on to make someone else listen to the song and read the lyrics too. THAT was amazing.

I'd written Beastie Boys on a bit of paper somewhere, and during an English class my English teacher saw it and goes, 'oh the Beastie Boys, ah yes I remember the fury they caused VW owners!' I explained to him what had gone on since then, he said he'd heard about the Free Tibet stuff and knew they'd some a long way. i saw the beasties in 87. the next day i saw my grandfather and my mom told him i went to a beastie boys concert. my grandpa, he was about 67 then, he said, "I saw the beastie boys on tv. I don't understand it at all. Well, I do understand one part of it, I understand the beat. But as far as fruitcakes running around on stage...I don't get it." lol. then i said, "well people didn't understand the beatles at first either" and he said "oh no. the beatles, they had some very beautiful melodies." lol. it's funny that i can remember that.
