i just did my nails. the thing is... i can never keep a manicure pretty for more than 3 hours. it just doesnt happen for me. and then i peel it. usually causing me to bite my nails and ending up with icky short nails with a little bit of leftover nail polish.

so...how do you girls keep nails nice?

also: why the fuck do we bother with nail polish? i actually think i have quite lovely natural nails. but my shopping addictions lead me to buy fun drugstore products i dont want or need such as the nail polish. ehhh...

also,part 2: what should i wear? it's fucking hot out. i wanna look nice later. actually, forget this q. it doesnt matter. you dont know my closet.

Dude, get acryilics. Not as nice as natural but you can't bite through them. I had acrylics because I couldn't stop biting my nails. But then I started playing guitar so I have to keep them short so the biting doesn't matter. Weird thing, they grew back much stronger than they were before.

I keep clear or a neutral color on my fingers because like you it doesnt last on me because I type all day. . I get a pedicure every 2 weeks and it lasts pretty well.

Yea, but you can hand them a .jpg and whatever picture/design you wanted is now on your nails.

I am the same way I chew my nails and have a bunch of nervous habits, but I've never had a manicure before! Ain't it like 20 bucks or more? If so that's BULLSHIT!!! But my aunt got a really pretty manicure and on her nails it said "fuck off" and she keeps them all pretty looking for a long time, she don't chew her nails because she does a whole bunch of other wierd habits like doing drugs then eating alot so I guess that keeps her from it. Oh, and I don't ever really buy nail polish either. I think they look prettier when they ain't painted.

Anyway, all I can say is instead of chewing your nails off do something else like chewing gum or something. That's what I do to keep myself from peeling the skin of my fingers, blegh!

Oh, and my tips for anyone who wants to stop being a nailbiter:

1 - Buy like a hundred emery boards, and put them everywhere. In you purse, in the pockets of all your jackets, in your desk drawer, all around the house. When you find yourself about to bite (or, if you're really bad, already biting without having thought about it), file. File, file, file. Trade your biting habit for a filing habit.

2 - Keep a little thing of cuticle cream in your purse and massage your cuticles anytime you find yourself 'waiting' for something to do. Like in line at the supermaket, or at the bus stop, etc.

3 - Get a nail buffer and do a weekly buff.

It might all seem a bit weird and excessive at first but it works. The problem with most people when they try to stop biting their nails is that they try to do it by ignoring the urge and trying to do nothing, when in fact if you do the opposite and start paying LOTS of attention to them, you learn to take care of them. Plus the filing and the cuticle cream will also keep you from having any 'ragged edges', which are always the bits that get you biting in the first place.

my lungs probably arent quite so pretty though :(

I used to be nail polish addicted but my job also prevents me from doing that since I wear latex gloves with powder in them that turns all nail polishes weird yellowy colors

I don't wear nail polish although for special summertime occasions, I have occasionally painted my toenails a really, really light-colored pink.

A friend of mine has a german shepherd who has wide, black nails. Whenever I dog-sit that dog, I'm been tempted to paint her nails. They're perfect little palettes for painting but I don't want to risk having her eat that polish and get sick. They probably make dog nail polish.

i paint my toe nails every week..and my fingernails. my fingernail polish will last about a day, and by the end of that day the nail polish will be all peeled off and my nails will be all bitten down again.
why? i dunno. I have about 40 different nail polishes (yes i just counted) and that means i can have a different color almost every week of the year (i need twelve more...mental note)
