View Full Version : Mini surprise party

I often arrange things or set things up for myself, so that they will work out nicely when it would be nice for them to do so, knowing I'll forget about it until that time arises and then I'll be happily in a state of semi surprise.
Examples
Skip to a song on the cd player in my car, then turn off the engine before it starts, so that the next time I start the car that song will come on.
Clean my place then go out for a while so that I come home to a clean house - or just make sure I get all good cleaning done before I have to go out for a long period of time. Then I come home and fully appreciate how nice everything looks.
Open the curtains in my living room before I go to bed, so that in the morning the sunlight will be shining in when I wake up. I've done this in my bedroom as well.
If I know I'm going out to eat that day, I will refrain from eating before hand and just drink lots of water so by the time it's dinner time I feel so excited about eating. But actually this kind of doesn't work very well once I start eating. The food tastes better but I fill up fast.
Got any that you do, any gifts to yourself?

I hold my pee in for hours so that I can get a good stream going when I do go, not one of those weak splinter ones that veer off in different directions.

I set the CD player in my car too! And I have done the alarm thing sometimes too.
I hide money in odd purse compartments and zippered jacket pockets and boxes in my house and then forget it on purpose.
I surprise myself by not having anything to eat at home so I get to go and say hi to the lovely checkout girl at the market.
And when I have a car I always do that cd thing. So often that it's not really a surprise anymore. Maybe I need to use another cd next time.

You're going to surprise party yourself with a bladder infection! :(

I'll usually purposely leave some money in my winter coat so when the snow starts falling, and when it actually gets cold enough to wear a coat (they don't always coincide, my dears), and I'm digging around in my pockets I usually find $20 or something. It's neat.

WHen winter is over, and I'm packing away all my sweaters and heavy jackets, I always throw a 20 spot in my winter jacket pocket, so sometime in November I get a nice 20 dollar treat.

You know what they say about great minds, right?
They think for themselves.
We can comfortably live knowing we're not that great after all.

I do the cleaning thing, too. I mostly clean on Friday mornings or Thursday night, that way I won't have to consume my weekend with cleaning. And if guests stop by, there's no rush to pick up before I answer the door.
I fill my teapot at night, so when I wake up, I don't have to fuss with it. I just turn on the stove.

I don't know if this is the same thing, but...
For several years, my kid and I rented a little place on the beach and we'd stay for a couple of weeks. Each year, we'd hide something somewhere in the place and then look for it the next year. Something about continuity, I know.
Sometimes we forgot what we were looking for.
Our favorite thing that we left: a line of about 10 tiny pink plastic pigs that we queued up on top and in the back of a kitchen cabinet. The next year, they were exactly the way we left them.

i like to do as much as i can for the morning before i go to bed, so when i wake up 10 minutse before i have to go, i still have matching clothes and a lunch to take to work
and then if i actually get up early enough, i like to pull my dinner items to the front of the fridge, or put them on the counter so i can start cooking whenever i get home

Yes! We bought them at a game store at the beach for cheap.
It was precious to us.

Beach, kitchen, pass the pigs...That makes me think of Florida because that's where my favorite uncle lives, and that's where I first saw PASS THE PIGS because he had it in his kitchen and we played on the big kitchen counter, and his house was so cool and air conditioned and clean and smelled like air conditioner and bacon, but when you stepped outside you'd feel immediately uncomfortable in the heat and humidity but he had a nice covered patio with a pool, as many people do in Florida.
It's called "kasta gris" in Swedish.
If you ever happen to be there.

My mini surprise party happens when I sign in here and see a certain little green light next to a certain username, and I think Yay! because he hasn't been on here in a while. So then I pm him and he's like, "dear god, won't this psycho chic leave me alone!" And he signs out. :(
How are the Swedish beaches?
So now you know.

As a treat, I always eat my cheap ass ramen with chopsticks, because it makes them a little more fancy. And chopsticks are fun!

It was actually about the fact that enree has been slacking in her PM sending lately.
But I like your analogies, so keep them coming.

No, enree will travel.
I hear they have internet cafes in Zurich. I don't quite believe it myself but that's the rumor.
Just hope that black bears don't munch on me first.
And no clowns.
God, this talk of clowns and hair. And ice.
I need a blanket and a teddy bear. Do it quick.

Last month someone emailed a cartoon to me and I thought it was funny and put it in my office.
But then a friend saw it and convinced me that it was sent probably in an effort to relay a not-so-nice message. Which I totally didn't get on my own. I'm dumb like that. :(
So I replaced it with this (http://www.beastieboys.com/bbs/showpost.php?p=936752&postcount=15).
And then I realized that it fits in with this surprise-yourself thread because I've left it hanging in my office and it'll be the first thing I see when I get back. (Thank you cosmo.)
Speaking of that, see you all.
I've got to finish packing and then try to get on an earlier flight.
xoxo
