Just out of curiosity, does anyone here invest? I'm currently working for a finacial advisor and the majority of his clients are 55 and older, people who are retired or planning for retirement. and it makes me think: are people my age investing? If not, what's going to happen to the stock market when the older generation dies off?

so indulge me:
what is your age?
do you invest?
what types of things do you invest in? are you socially/environmentally conscience or do you buy all the oil stock you can?

I've been interested in getting into the stock market lately. I guess it's a little intimidating so I'm trying to do as much research as possible.

My grandparents have millions of dollars worth of oil stock. All the men on my dad's side of the family currently work or retired in the oil business. Not, like, oil execs, but as machinists, etc. Stocks were part of the benefits.

401K, mutual fund, money market. Mostly for retirement. I don't buy individual stocks, since I sold them and used the money to help buy a house in 2002.
I invest based on rates of return. I used to pay more attention to socially conscience investment companies, but frankly I found that difficult to confirm. Much of my portfolio is in real estate investment, right now -- not REIT's, though.

I am in the mining industry

I know exactly who is about to hit gold, silver, copper etc

but I also sign these stupid agreements that prevent me from sharing my wealth of "invest in that shits" knowledge

:/

you can't share your knowledge with others, but are you allowed to invest in them yourself? I imagine they'd frown upon that too. bastards. no insider trading, yeah yeah we know.

I have a significant chunk of change in SkyNet Enterprises. There're gonna be big in about 25 years or so.

I don't know much about it but...

I'm 21. At age 20, I put in 5 bucks to the Sirius radio stock. Now it's worth 35 dollars!

I wish I put more in it ;/ but I was/am poor. I'm hoping one day it explodes and my $5 will be much more than that. :D

I'm 32.
No I don't

But I'm really pissed that I didn't buy any Google shares when they floated, I would have done rather well.
I'm considering buying some shares in Trafficmaster.

I'm 33
Yes I invest
Until recently (within the last year) I only invested in my compan's 401 K plan and their own stocks, but since christmas I've been investing in the stockmarket myself. Only a little bit though, I can't afford much. I use an online service that has cheap fees. I've only invested in one company so far and it's just becuase I'm expecting to get a good return, not because of any social or invironmental impact the company will have on society. But I don't think that the company will effect society in a negative way. I wouldn't knowingly invest in a company that I feel is, but I also don't like to take too many chances with my money since I don't have much.

As far as my 401k goes I have the bulk of my money in stocks at this time since I'm no where near retirement.
