The new episodes are going down the shitter. The evil monkey in the closet, and greased-up deaf guy were funny when they were on only once; now it's turning into Disco Stu.

It has its moments, but a lot of it is kinda stupid now. Like, their humor is oftentimes way too expected. Such as the beginning of the 2nd one this season where Peter goes to Chris's family-night thing at school. "Oh hey I love Dodgeball! Heads up!" *throws dodgeball at guy*
He goes to cooking class, "Oh hey I love pie!" *throws pie at same guy*
He goes to music class, "Oh hey I love trombone!" *picks it up, starts playing it for about 30 seconds, everyone claps. Then throws it at same guy*
If anyone didn't see that coming a mile away, I'm thoroughly impressed. Apparently one of my best friends didn't see it coming, judging on how hard he laughed.

I love unexpected humor. A lot of Family Guy follows a formula now, and that's sad.

I haaaaaate it when you can see things coming a mile away, whether it's a TV show or a movie, and other people are so shocked by it and think you're an idiot for not liking it because it was so obvious and they just didn't see it. Ugh.

Ok, now script it, animate it, voice it, produce it and then get it aired on TV for the world to watch  Anyway, I'm not going any further in this petty debate, he only started this topic to watch all the noobs scurry to defend the show. poor echewta :(

i love watching the plastic surgery before and after and feeling sorry for the people with really low self-esteem. they always have to throw in one story about saving a kid's cheek or something.

the best was the guy that had lost part of his nose so they took skin from his "groin" and used that to make him a new one. HE WAS TOTALLY GROWING PUBES ON HIS FACE.

QueenAdrock
07-31-2005, 09:22 PM
Awesome!

I saw one where they cut out part of his forehead to give him his nose. And this other one, there was this good-looking guy who would look greek-godesque if he got a nose job, so he said he *needed* one, because he lived in LA or whatever. I could never live somewhere so superficial.

word up slutface. Futurama was the most slept on show ever.

initially I loved family guy. The first several episodes I saw were very funny, but it quickly got repetitive and obnoxious. Things that seemed completely random were following a pretty set formula if you watched previous episodes of the show.

Plus people just laugh at shit they dont even necessarily understand or get. The "Electric Company" reference came on one episode I was watching with a friend and his 17 year old brother was dying and I was like "uhhh do you even remember The Electric Company?" and hes like "what? no"

QueenAdrock
07-31-2005, 10:50 PM
Exactly. I loved the "Find the Fish" reference in the 3rd season, and my friend was laughing his balls off. I said "Wow, I didn't know you liked Meaning of Life!" And he was just like "...meaning of what, now?"

The Simpsons was the best show on tv at one point.

Futurama at it's best cannot/shall not/will not/is unable to not be able to not touch The Simpsons at it's best.

And Familiy Guy is pure unadulterated gay at it's best.

I found Family Guy stupid at its best. It bored me after about half an episode. The Simpsons worst episode is much better than Family Guys best.

The Simpsons is still one of the best shows on TV, although it hasn't reached the quality that was seasons 4-10 for a while. Compared to the rest of the crap, its gold. I still look forward to every new episode.

Futurama (RIP) also kicks Family Guy's arse, because its got the Professor, Zoidberg and Zap Brannigan.

Family Guy is way too gimmicky. I'm so sick of the whole, "OMG, THEY REFERENCED THAT OBSCURE THINGY FROM 1980 BLAH BLAH BLAH! SO FUNNY!!!!"
like, okay, I get it, I got it a million times! next!

the only funny part of family guy is listening to my coworkers talk about it and imitate the funniest parts. also, we make fun of this guy we work with who we say is creepy like quagmire, so there's lots of head bobbing and "giggity giggity" going on.

there's too much shit to wade through to get to the good parts, I'll pass.

I like the baby though, and the dog. ha ha, babies and dogs don't talk like that!

So what do you think about American Dad? I thought the pilot episode was hilarious. Roger and Claus were pretty funny. Especially the part were Claus is looking up Francine's dress.

After the first episode it seems like its been kind of hit and miss.

there's things about the show I like, and don't like. I'll watch it if it's on. I like the first few episodes as some have mentioned.

I dunno. It's too bad. There was potential to stay/grow in to greatness.

I haven't seen any of the new episodes. I watch the re-runs on cartoon network from time to time, but not religiously. I find that I either laugh my ass off through an entire episode (like the one with Petoria and all the world leaders at the pool party... haha) or mildly snicker intermittently while I'm watching it. I suppose that's why I never really turned into a die hard fan - it's a little inconsistent.

I find that one to be especially inconsistent. I think they have somewhat of a good idea, it's just not being executed very well. I lose interest in the show while watching it usually.

There was an interview with Seth MacFarlane in Jest magazine a few months ago in which he talked at length about his deals with Fox. He said that very, very shortly after the deal for American Dad came through, Fox threw the idea of running new episodes of Family Guy at him. Apparently he has very little time for both, and since Family Guy has been his baby for so many years, he figured it'd be best for him to focus more of his efforts on that show as opposed to American Dad. American Dad is written primarily by other members of his staff, so that probably has a lot to do with the poor execution.

P.S.
I think American Dad totally blows.

Sarky Devotchka

American Dad sucks ass. Although I only saw the first episode. I don't like how all the voices are the same as Family Guy, or at least seem that way. For pete's sake, I was even high when I saw it...and it still wasn't funny. I just remember staring blankly and cringing.

american dad is horrible.

You obviously didn't see the Karl Rove episode. He tried to help Stan get elected as church deacon, and when he won, he invited the hooded-Karl Rove into the church. Rove took one step in, and immediately began to smoke, so he said "I'm comfortable here," then turned into a million bats and flew away.

It has its moments. I don't like most of the plots, but the political references are usually pretty funny.

Chappelle's Show, Kids in the Hall, Mr. Show, Stella, Upright Citizen's Brigade, Strangers With Candy, Daily Show, etc. etc.

I still *like* Family Guy, but there's only so many things cartoons can do before it gets old. I never watch new Simpsons because they make me gag. New Family Guy has its moments. But almost every episode I've seen of the above mentioned shows have been gold.

Curb Your Enthusiasm is the only relatively new comedy show that I watch religiously. Larry David is a goddamn genius.

I also think Real Time with Bill Maher and The Daily Show are two of the best shows on television, but neither of them are strictly comedy and I don't really watch the latter of the two on a regular basis.

The Daily Show is quite funny. I haven't developed a like for Stella yet... I'm trying to give it an earnest shot.

You have to "get" their sense of humor. Unlike Family Guy, where it caters to the drooling brain-dead college kid group and everyone gets it.

tracky
08-02-2005, 09:32 PM
Their humour is even more juvenille than the family guy's! I get it, I just found it very very unfunny.

QueenAdrock
08-02-2005, 09:41 PM
That's the whole point, though. They purposefully try to be juvenille. Family Guy can't help being juvenille. There's a difference of laughing with, and laughing at. I don't enjoy laughing at as much.

It's kinda like laughing at a retard, and laughing at someone pretending to be a retard.

There's a difference. I feel Family Guy takes cheap shots a lot of the time and dumbs down their humor for their audience, and focuses their attention on college kids born in the 1980's, whereas Stella is original, makes television shows because it makes them laugh/they don't sell out, focuses their attention on people who get their sense of humor etc. etc. Hard to explain. Also hard to understand unless you seriously don't watch anything but comedy shows. :)

Sarky Devotchka
08-03-2005, 12:56 AM
I got an advance copy of Stella's first episode, but haven't seen it since. It was pretty funny, and I met all those guys and have liked them for awhile, so I hope it does well.

also, in the first episode, the guy that comes from the Leavanthal Foundation to give them pullovers was at this bar down the street from me for Eugene Mirman's show and I was waiting for the bathroom and he walked by and I said, "hey blazer!" (he was wearing a blazer) and he turned around and I said, "Levanthal Foundation! you were in the first episode of Stella!" and he looked confused because the show hadn't come out yet, but he said "yes, yes I was" and I said, "hey! you were also in Loser!" and he said, "uh huh, yup" and then went to pee.

now we're dating.
