So around 1 this afternoon I get a call from an 866 number, I dont answer and wait for a VM since Im at work figuring if its anyone important they'll let me know who they are. Out of curiousity I call the number back, no answer and it says its disconnected.

They try calling back around 4, same shit.

6 pm I get a third call, I answer, say "hello" about 20 times til a voice starts talking.

"HI THIS IS BRIAN FROM FIRST PREMIER CALLING ABOUT YOUR RECENT APPROVAL FOR A $2,000 CREDIT LIMIT UNSECURED FIRST PREMIER BANK CARD AND WE JUST NEED TO VERIFY SOME INFORMATION"

"....ok"

"IS THIS (says my full name) at (full address)?"

"yup"

"okay and we just need to verify the bank account number"

"what do you need a bank account number for?"

"To verify the checking or savings account associated with this account"

"well considering your number is disconnected when I call it and I never had to give anyone at first premier a bank account number when I called YOU, Im not giving you that information. Who is this?"

*click*

The weird part is the bank he claimed to be from I recently applied and got a card from...like applied saturday, and per the people there was approved today. I called them to ask if they ever outcall like that and the number they gave me wasnt associated with any of their extensions. I explained that it sort of pissed me off because I figured more than likely this is the sort of scam that preys on the confused elderly and they would more than likely have a few cleared bank accounts by later tonight. I went on further to explain that this particular bank should make it their priority to investigate this since the persons calling were identifying themselves as employees. The lady was really cool and filled out a form with security and was going to file a complaint with the police department where they are headquartered, and advised I should do the same. I called a non emergency local police department number and left a message regarding the call.

The fucked up thing is the number appeared right on my phones ID. It couldnt be that hard to trace it since it was calling thru a predictive dialer system (a computer program that dials 10 numbers, whoever picks up first it talks to, hence the delay).

I dunno, it just really fucking pissed me off because I kind of pictured some confused old lady chatting away with some prick and getting her entire savings cleared out in a matter of minutes.

Banks have insurance and stuff for that, so don't worry too much. The scammers are still complete cockbags tho

more than likely, but yeah i never have trusted them. i used to have an account with them and got royally screwed by them as well.

just be sure to read your agreement fully and make sure you don't owe them anything when and if you ever close that account.
