I was looking at that yesterday. I swear, Def Jam puts together the absolute worst compilations. How are you gonna put out a "best of" PE comp and leave out Night Of The Living Baseheads and Cold Lampin' With Flavor, but include I Can't Do Nuttin For Ya Man and Prophets Of Rage? Also, they didn't include even one rarity, bonus or remix. Save your money and just buy the first 4 albums.

At least that one's better than this (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00005LMKS/qid=1123101843/sr=1-5/ref=sr_1_5/103-1956434-1162269?v=glance&s=music) one.
Speaking of compilations, Rhino dropped a pretty solid ODB compilation the other day.

Don't wave those "20th Century Masters" compilations at me.

I purchased this new Greatest Hits CD today and was pleased to find Yauch's commentary on Public Enemy from Rolling Stone's Immortals - 100 Greatest Artists of All Time list as part of the album's liner notes.
If you don't remember, here is what he said (http://www.beastieboys.com/bbs/showthread.php?t=48294).

What about "He Got Game"? Is that worthwhile?

It's not bad, but it pales in comparison to their earlier work.

you know after i heard "can't do nuttin for ya man" i thought that flava flav must have ate a trash can full of crack before he rapped that out. he shoulda capped that out. it was rancid bad [not good]. he shoulda knew it like i thought i woulda knew he would. i mean after "cole lampin w/flava" i thought he could do no wrong. boy was i wrong. but it was jus' a song; we all make mistakes, even the greats. he is still dope, still hangin out dope on a rope. [once in a while]. no joke.

There's been something of a Public Enemy revival of late. In addition to this collection, a live DVD, It Takes a Nation: The First London Invasion Tour 1987, was released in May.
Oooh, I think I'd like to see that! (y)
Anyone know if this is any good?

There's nothing wrong with Prophets Of Rage or Can't Do Nuttin For Ya Man. They're just average by PE standards, that's all. Night Of The Living Baseheads, on the other hand, is probably one of the 10 best rap songs ever.

win.
when i clicked that link i started to wonder why they didn't just compile a box set. then i got to thinking --" i've never known any hip hop act to release any sort of box set." all PE's albums are moderately priced. Just buy yo bum rush the show, it takes a nation of millions to hold us back, fear of a black planet and apoclypse 91, like mckill suggested.
i couldn't imagine listening to that comp and hearing a different track out of sequence. each album tells it's own unique story, a jumbled collection of oddball tracks is only giving you half the story.

I have the DVD/CD set. It's very early on - 1987 London tour, mostly songs from Yo! Bum Rush. The best thing on it is Chuck's commentary - he explains everything that's going on with them at that time. He says this is the first of many PE concert DVDs that they will release.
These are the concerts where Chuck got a lot of those in-between track intros for It Takes A Nation of Millions - which is interesting to see, after hearing them so many times on the album.
It also comes with a CD of the entire live concert and some bonus remixes of songs from Yo! Bum Rush.
I agree about the Greatest Hits - a box set would be better. They left off my fav too - Nighttrain.
