I bought his new CD yesterday. Haven't listened to it yet, though. He is a funny lad.

he's funny. But he's a dork ass, and although that could be a good thing, I mean in the sense that he has no lady skills.

He's on MYSPACE.

Not funniest alive but he is funny and so young yet! He has potential if he learns to change as he gets older. I think a lot of his humor comes from him being a DUDE. You know, come to think of it many comedians rely on their looks and age as part of their jokes. Fat guys make fat jokes, nerdy scrawny guys make insecurity jokes, pretty girls make ditzy jokes, attractive black guys make aggressive racial jokes - not always of course. Does this suggestion hold water or am I reaching?

Well, I for one converted to Judaism strictly for the jokes.

nah, you're right. i remember this one time on last comic standing, there was this muscley black guy, alonzo boden or something (he did well), he was making jokes about going to bed bath and beyond with his wife, and pottery barn and all that. then colin quinn said something like "do those jokes not go over well with black audiences?" and alonzo called him a racist or something, it was pretty funny.

I think so. As 'they' say to writers... write what you know. They 'say' and make 'jokes' about what they know.

If that makes sense.

everyone has to have a schtick. Then there are the angry, ranting, often smoking, guys like Bill Hicks and Dennis Leary. Each comic has to have something in him that we will recognize as something to laugh AT, like they're fat or unhappy or down on their luck, or just a failure, or just too ditzy and dumb to do anything else but act like a clown.

But then you have people like Craig Kilborn, who is funny because he's cocky and a little vain. He seems standoffish. Maybe his prissyness and sarcasm is his schtick.

You shouldn't mention those so close to each other when talking to Bob.

Don't tell ME about Bob and Bill Hicks. I've been putting Bill Hicks sauce on my Bobwaffles for ages now. I'm trying to get a response. I know what I'm doing, trust me. You set the table, breakfast will be ready soon.

don't forget lewis black. i dunno if i'd call bill hicks' yelling thing a schtick though, he really seemed legitimately angry about things. with others you can tell they're just doing it to be funny. like "weathermen are largely obsolete, ARRRRGHHHH!" type things. i don't actually know what schtick means, actually. i once gave an oral report in english class and the teacher called me schticky. i got an A+ though. the class loved it too, it was the proudest moment of my life

Once upon a time I consulted Bob for his opinion on which Hicks CD's I should buy.

I rather ask than be told what to do.

his schtick? i don't know, he's been around too long to pigeonhole. i was listening to some old stuff he did in i think the 70s, an album called solid gold, and he sounds waaay different than he does these days. his voice is very smooth and calm, and not as cranky old mannish as it is now, it's really funny, i like it better, actually

I've never bothered to pick anything of his up. Bob's opinion makes me think i might like it since we have similar taste..

I think it's hard to say anyone is the funniest man alive. there's no one out there who can possibly appeal to everyone.

I will say that dane is one of my personal favorites, as is carlin and lewis black.

You know what, I think you're right. There's just no way anyone could be the funniest man alive; because how would you even prove that? No, there's no way you could prove that. You're so smart, cookie. I didn't even consider the logistics of such a bold statement.

all of the funniest comedians are dead.

personally, I find dane cook pretty fucking redunant and stale.

even like david cross, whom I think is fucking hilarious on tv doesnt do as good at standup. Its a harder venue to take new approaches I think when its just you saying shit.
