I have finally taken myself off invisible mode

I think I put it on there like 2 1/2 years ago when my boyfriend was getting mad at me for being on the board and I didn't want him to see if I was on.

I know this is really stupid but I'm bored.

If you go somewhere else on the internet, is your light still on? Because I come in here for 10 minutes and then go to ebay lately (sad, I know) and I wouldn't want people thinking I was staring at some silly thread for an hour (when I was really shopping for headphones for an hour).

Yeah, but when I go to a bunch of other websites and then come back here, It still shows me as logged in here when I get back and it shows me having been logged in since I first came in here. Not that it matters. :o

you gotta learn how this thing called the internet actually works

Each time you visit a website, there is a server, basically another computer, that you send a little message to. That message says something like, "hey I want to see the latest happenings on the interweb, here's my return address". The server says, ok, gimme a few nanoseconds, and I'll get that stuff from the database and put it into a file you can read. Server then sends the file to your browser. Sometimes when your browser asks for a page, it sends some extra info, like your log in name, ie it says "hey it's tracky here, whats new?". When the server gets this message, it goes, hey tracky's in the house, i'm gonna put him in the active users list for 5 minutes. Some browsers will keep sending a little message to the server every now and then that says "i'm still here reading this page you gave me". When you close your browser, or go to a different page, it stops sending those little messages, and when the server stops recieving them, it removes you from the active users list. When you click the log out link, it doesn't log you out from the server, it clears the cookie on your computer that identifies you to the server. I don't know why i'm bothering explaining this, no ones gonna get it and i gotta do some work. carry on...
