That's like George Harrison. He quit smoking but died from lung cancer much later. :(

I hadn't heard he was sick. He seemed like a classy guy (for a Canadian :)). I didn't know he had become a US citizen either. I wonder why.

It's funny. Ever since I was little he was a reporter. I am/was so used to just seeing him constantly. R.I.P.

Here, it seems that a lot more people smoke.
Maybe it's that they're allowed to smoke in more places so
it just seems like there are a lot more of them around.

They smoke a certain type of cigarette that appeals to me.
I don't really know what it is and probably don't want to find out.
Over the last several days, I've sometimes found myself sidling up closer to
people who smoke those cigarettes and then I breathe in--just a little--of their smoke.

I find most cigars to be pleasant and the same is true with pipe tobacco.
I've sometimes nudged up to those smokers. These cigarettes are different.

When I heard the news about Peter Jennings, I was sad.
His was the only news I watched. I was hoping he'd beat the cancer.

I thought about smoking and then I thought about
George Harrison. I don't think I'll be sidling up to any smokers again.

He was a high school dropout too, and he still kicked Rather's ass six ways to Sunday.

I was amazed to find out he was a high school dropout.

All this time he had this graceful eloquence that I attributed to at bare minimum an ivory league education; it turns out he never even finished high school. Amazing.

My brother keeps saying, we should declare a war against cancer, because last year, 570,280 people died of cancer. 2,752 died in the world trade center attacks of 2001, plus another 147 on the other two flights.

Not to say that terrorism isn't a horrible thing, just saying that cancer needs to be fought just as hard, if not harder. It's a bigger killer.

He was actually the only newscaster I watched throughout 9/11. He was so comforting and familiar.
