Did anyone else's kid start Kindergarten today?

Mine did. :(

That's so cute! Did you walk him/her to the bus or did you have to drive?

My boy started in Febuary. It was all very nerve-wracking at first. Now he's smokin behind the bikeshed and cuttin class. Ah, they grow up so fast.

We intended to drive, but the traffic was hellacious. We parked about three minutes from our house and walked the rest of the way. Of course, my daughter has the worst luck. We hadn't been walking five minutes and she tripped over her shoelaces. Thankfully, there was no blood, and she was over it pretty quickly.

I walked her to her class, helped her find her seat, then she ditched me.

All of the other parents were hanging out in the hall, sniffling. I saved face by doing my sniffling on the walk back to the car.

Ah, another moment in parenthood.

:)

It still seems odd to me that your school year starts in February. I get that it was summer down there but I still shake my head before remembering.

Frankly, it makes more sense to start school at the beginning of the year, rather than starting in August/September. But I suppose the school year in both countries was started based upon farming needs.

I had to get on a bus (the green duck bus and I wore a green duck pinned to my dress--it's in the home movies). I was a very shy girl. Two of my siblings had moved out of the house by then. My brother was playing college football somewhere, but actually called home to find out whether I got on the bus because he didn't believe that I would. That still knocks me out that he was once so involved in my life.

I love when school starts in my current neighborhood. Even though the school isn't very far away, a bus picks up the little ones and they're so cute standing on the corners with their parents. :)

Luckily that won't be until next year, but I'm sure I'll cry when that happens.

I wanted my kids to ride the bus, but we just don't live far enough away. Instead of a bus stop, the city gave us more manned crosswalks. Before, kids were getting run over about once every two months just across the street from us.

I love it when school starts and it gets the teenagers off the streets.

I have roughly 4 and a half years to teach my child how to hustle a 3-card monty table.
