are you on a quarterly or semester system?
Just curious. I'm on a quartly system myself. I have mid-terms all this week. This entire weekend I spent studying and drawing just about every hour I had available. I feel like I am the only person in the country (other than the fellow students at my school) who was studying for mid-terms all weekend and continuing on to this week.

I'm on a semester system, which means I have nothing to do until the start of October. Which is annoying, because they haven't told me what I'll be doing in October, so I can't do any preparatory reading over the summer.

dang it. Lucky dogs ;)
I think my break between summer quarter and fall quarter is one week, total. Then I get three weeks for christmas and such. Then winter quarter, one week break, spring quarter, rinse repeat.
I think school goes quicker though that way. Not that I like that fact, though. I wouldn't mind staying in school for a while.

damn you too! ;)
by the way, which school are you going to? I don't think I ever asked you. And are you taking the classes in your new major only now? Have you considered being a double major?
I am considering being a double major, but I think it will cost me way over 77k to do it. Thus, I am thinking maybe I shouldn't bother. It will be so much more since the other major I want doesn't really have anything in common with my current major as far as classes are concerned (game art vs interactive media).
I thought of all this mainly because in interactive media there are a few photography classes that need to be taken. Thus, I thought of you :)

awws. :)
i'm still at the community college level, so i'm transferring to a (bigger) school closer to where i'm moving. i'm just taking requirement classes from here on out...i switched my major. no more photo - nutrition, now. and from there i'm hopefully transferring to cal state LA. i'm looking to become a nutritionist, woot.
if you ever have any questions about photo, ask me.

I wish I had the option to do semesters instead. This is what happens when you choose a super specific major.
I am slightly considering going to State or something and majoring in Art there, and just learning the 3D aspects elsewhere. But I feel like I will be behind the pack if I know very little 3D in this day and age.

my boyfriend is doing a double major in food and nutrional sciences
Ummmm semester system
it rules
plus as a science major during my last two years I maybemaaaaaaaybe wrote one midterm a semester because at the upper level you just dont have the time because they replace those marks with retarded amounts of research paper writing and presentations
Id much rather write a 15 page paper then do an extra exam any day

quarterly = 15 credit hours worth of work (or whatever the case may be, usually it's 15) into 10-11 weeks, four times in one school year.
For my school, each class meets once a week for a total of 4 hours. There is then that equivalent of homework for each class as well (sometimes more).
It's basically cramming in material to finish faster. I think in my schools case, they choose to do this due to how quickly technology changes. They want to make sure the things we learned are applicable by the time we graduate. At least, I think that's the theory behind it. I am actually going to bring this issue up at a meeting tomorrow.
Right now, I am taking 12 credit hours (4 classes). So I'm in class 16 hours a week, with about the same amount homework each week. Unfortunately, two of the four classes are extra demanding. For example, my sculpture class, I've worked 10 hours or more before on a single project for that class. The other, I have at least 5 different assignments, some taking about half an hour, others a few hours, etc.
It's very challenging. Especially if you work while in school, even part-time.

Semesters, but it means I have a stupid period of time when I have to go back to Uni for a week after Xmas before returning home for another 2 week break.
Wassup wit' that?

I don't really like the idea of quarterlies. It doesn't sound like a good way of learning the material. More like rushing and not really learning.
that's the way I feel, at least about my major. Mainly because there is art involved, and I don't think drawing skills can be 'rushed.'
I handle it okay, but I feel like it'd be better if I were trained over an extended period of time.
I think if it changes though, it will be after I am long gone from the school.
