View Full Version : So, ladies, how do you PMS?

I'm hating life right now because of my goddamn sexual reproductive organs. Curse them!
When I have PMS, I get really quiet and irritable and just want to be alone. Not only do I hate everyone, but I think that everyone hates me. It's a really good time.

if i wasn't on the pill, it'd be a lot worse.
i get cramps the day before. bloating. the only thing that really helps is this herbal tea i like.
and don't talk to me that day. seriously. i'll either love you to pieces or rip your head off. it's best to not take that gamble and just send me flowers from a distance.

I have PMS every other month. During my "off months" I
still have my period but it's light and I don't have PMS.
It's always been that way for me.
When I do have PMS, about five days before my period
starts, I get hungry. Like get me food now hungry.
And I retain more water.
Every few months, I get a headache around my period.
But it's *nothing* compared to what my sister gets. She's
a few years older than I am and has had migraines for
the last several years--she'll get them not around her
period but the ones around her period are bad.
I suspect it has something to do with water retention
or sugar intake, although nothing helps her. I've tried
everything to get info for her--nothing on the internets
has helped. Poor thing. Some day, they'll figure out
more about menstrual-related migraines. She will
be happy when they do.
I went through a spell where I had them more than I do
now but fortunately, that passed.

I get water weight like no other (5-7 pounds worth), and I get extremely irritable. Not a good combination, because I put on clothes that should fit that make me look like a sausage, then I get angry at my body and start punching things for being so fat.
But it's okay the week after.

I think guys experience that time of the month too; a few days when they get tired and achey, and cranky and neurotic, and want to eat a lot, and they get all emotional and vulnerable for no apparent reason. Maybe it's the cycles of the moon. They don't shed a uterine lining but the rest is the same. And that's okay. Dont get me wrong, I like thugs just as much as the next girl, but I still like them if they cry. Its natural and all. When Thugs Cry was the original title of Prince's When Doves Cry. He didn't yet have the street cred at the time.
I can go from a month with no "symptoms" at all to the next month with hell for the entire time, It's dependent on a lot of factors. Maybe it's a phenomenon that has to do with the fact that although socially we operate on 24 hour days, biologically, the body has an internal clock that runs more toward 25 to 27 hour cycles. The conflict between the two would have to surface every so often. Hence the whole biorhythms school of self-knowledge.

That is a lot of water! When it leaves you,
how many Mississippis do you think you pee out?
(I find that when my water retention goes, I
only pee out normal amounts of Mississippis
but I do it a bunch of times more often than
normal. Goddammit but this is a fascinating
topic. :))

I'm pretty cranky, neurotic and cynical most of the time. But there usually comes a time when I do feel the need to watch Love Story.

God, even that music makes me cry. They totally
work me over doing stuff like that in movies
and they know it. Bastards. I avoid movies like that in general
and absolutely avoid them around my period--I
weep audibly. Like Mary Tyler Moore's character in one
of her sitcoms. I forget which one. It's embarrassing.
My friends won't go to those types of movies with
me. :o

I get some fairly serious low back pain. Not incapacitating, but I know when I feel it that it's like "OK, not long now then." I used to be really virtuous and not take painkillers and shit and then I realised, who the fuck am I impressing with that? Gimme some goddamn Nurofen! And that sorts it out.
Emotionally though I become very sensitive. Not in a way that I get offended by things people say to me or anything, more in an 'empathy with the global suffering of humanity' kind of way. Earlier this month, for example, I was PMS'ing bigtime right after the second London bombings, and that was, like, a really hard, hard week to get through. Everything, all this tension everywhere, just felt like it was magnified about a thousand million times. Plus there were all of the images of those poor starving people in Niger in the news and I would just find myself watching the news and crying, crying, crying. Plus mr.peachy was out of town and so there wasn't anyone to heat up the warm pillow thingie and lay it on my back and rub my neck. Yeah that week pretty much sucked, really.
Usually though, not quite so bad. But you get the picture.

Sorry you had to hear it from me. I have my theories, but the one that holds up the best is that Anthony Anderson and Taye Diggs got O'Neal addicted to morphine, then withheld it from him, and forced him to act in the film so they could keep some crediblility.

ahaha this reminds me when my sister-in-law was pregnant with my first nephew and my brother called my family late at night to tell us she cried during Godzilla (the matthew broderick version) when mama zilla was dying on the bridge or something - she boo-hooed out, "SHE WAS JUST TRYING TO SAVE HER BABIES!"

my son claims to have peed 205 mississippis once.
although he says it was following a cola-drinking contest,
i'm dubious. i think it was some other drinking contest
and maybe the nature of that contest was partially
responsible for the inflated-sounding number of
expelled southern states. :)

Oh I get it! "Mississippis" as in that's how many times you said Mississippi before you were done! Ha! I thought you meant you peed out that much liquid as it would be equivalent to that number multiplied by the amount of water in the Mississippi river.

so funny--see, i thought that was something that
every kid grew up doing. i wonder if people in
mississippi do that if they call it some other state.
i peed out 43 californias. ouch. :)

I am extremely irritable. Mainly because I get headaches and cramps and I'm just not very happy. I get pissed off easily (but usually at the things that bother me normally, I just show it, a lot).
I get hyper-emotional in general.
Thank god for the pill. Otherwise this cycle would last 9 days total.
Now, it's only 5. Phew.

It was such a long time ago I had any I can't remember anything else than having heavy cramps, but then I started eatin evening primrose capsules and they did the trick. My life wasn't miserable at all after I discovered those. Also having a diet including zinc and iron did good (button mushrooms, chicken, spinach, broccoli...).

I am showing some PMS symptoms right now, but I'm not supposed to be on the blob yet. I'm feeling really confused and over emotional. I'm stuffing my face with chocolate and I got angry at my dad for just walking in the room.
Maybe it's got nothing to do with PMS, maybe it's just general depression.
I so need a hug right now. :(

p.s. the whole thing about being ultra horny on the period, not true for every girl.
I'm so f-ing miserable when on it, sex doesn't really cross the mind. I know that I do wish I had the option though, since when I'm miserable sex makes me feel better (and no, I don't like sex while on the period, so that is not something I'll do thankyouverymuch). Instead I please the boyfriend, in hopes that someone gets something out of the misery.

I usually get upset easily, feel like crying for no reason. I also get extra anxious. I notice for some reason that I always go shopping when pmsing and I feel like punching people in the face, mostly other girls. When I was younger I used to shop during pms with my mom and we'd always get in a huge fight.
Oddly enough when I get my period mentally I'm ok, but physically I'm hurtin'.
