Listening to the tale of Major Tom isn't as heartwarming as hearing about the two lovers near the Berlin Wall.

That is true, however i beg to differ with the version Bowie played on the Glass Spiders tour.

If i were to choose a Bowie song, it would be between 'Ashes to Ashes' or 'Life on Mars'

Somebody's Got to Die-B.I.G, hollywood style. Such layered production, perfect vocals.

Get By-Talib Kweli, for somebody who needed to cut down on the drinking and smoking, this song did it for me!

Silverbacks-Masta Killa ft. Inspektah Deck and GZA. What a return to form. I could say the same about Buck 50.

A year and a Day- The Beastie Boys. Nuff fucking said.

The Way I am-Eminem. He'll never top this song, the delivery, whatever.

Night of the living Baseheads-P.E. It could be most of the shit on 'Nation'. This does it for me. "Here it is...BAM!"

Through the Wire-Kanye West, amazes me because it bought a different kind of realness to hip-hop. The Chaka Khan sample is o.k, too.

8 steps to Perfection-Company Flow, beats and rhymes the likes of which you could only dream about making.

Fuck The Police-N.W.A, made protest cool. Still does. Sounds as good to me as when I first heard it as a youngster. (y)

There are waaay too many if I do standards, jazz, or classical. My all time makes-me-weak-in-the-knees song will probably always be Battle Hymn of the Republic.

Pop/rocks songs that come to mind because they have blown me away for a long time:

Roberta Flack - Killing Me Softly
Dire Straits - Straightaway
Emmylou Harris - Boulder to Birmingham
Joni Mitchell - Raised on Robbery
Foo Fighters - Everlong
Garbage - Stroke of Luck
Pearl Jam - Black
Earth Wind and Fire - Reasons
Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here
Bryan Ferry/Roxy Music - about a dozen songs
Hollies - The Air That I Breathe
Zeppelin - Tangerine
Stevie Wonder - Front Line and You Haven't Done Nothing
Rufus - Tell Me Something Good
Rufus Wainwright - Cigarettes and Chocolate Milk
Richard & Linda Thompson - Walking on a Wire
Chantels - Maybe
Crystals - He's a Rebel
Marvelettes - Hunter Gets Captured By the Game
Ronettes - Walking in the Rain

They're mostly hits because I remember being blown away hearing them on the radio immediately.

Bridge Over Troubled Water, Simon & Garfunkel

Moves me to tears, every time. Listen to it sometime with some good headphones, close your eyes and check out the strength and clarity of Art Garfunkel's voice. It's an amazing performance.

For the Crystals, I really like "Then He Kissed Me".
My favorite Crystals' song is He's Sure the Boy I Love, because it's so hilarious. "He'll never be a big business man, he always buys on the installment plan."

But He's a Rebel was the first song that stopped me in my tracks and made me listen back when I was listening to my older brother's 45s. And Then He Kissed Me is so great too. Darlene should be rich today. So unfair.
