I've only started getting into this sport this year since England played the Aussies in a 20Twenty match. And now I'm looking forward to the 3rd test they are playing today.

I used to think cricket was rubbish and boring. Now it's easy daytime viewing while I do other things.

I'll probably get into golf next.

So who here has been enjoying the cricket?

Best game in the world. The England bats don't look that confident at the moment. I just hope that Glenn McGrath hasn't come back in too early

I can't say that I've ever seen an entire match (they are called matches right?) but if the opportunity presented itself I'd give it a whirl...I love all sports

as a rule i hate all australian cricketers [especially mcgrath, warne and that fag shane watson...oh and brett lee...ian harvey, michael bevan...hayden, langer...andrew symonds] but damien martyn is the most enjoyable batsman to watch when he's playing well. i used to think mark waugh was graceful but martyn might be even more graceful.

See, most australians dont like martyn, because hes not a slogger like gilchrist, symonds or hayden, and hes not a clutch player like bevan who can partner the tail like nobody else. He just does his thing, great technique but no big sixes, its all about timing for him.

Bevan's easily my favourite player just for that match against the West Indies where he won it off his own bat with the tail (with good support from Rieffel). I remember staying up late to see him smash that last ball for 4 when I was like 8 or 9.

People who think cricket is just another excuse to get drunk and act foolishly think this. I love watching Marto's stroke-play. Every shot is just these feather-light touches to the ball that go racing to the boundary. It's truly awesome to watch. Ricky Ponting does the same thing, but he's got a power game too.

I appreciate Martyn, but for entertainment value Bevan was a master. I still think he should get a chance at test level, just look at his last season in the ING cup, he top scored for the league and showed he still has it.

As far as bowlers go, McGrath will always be my favourite, closely followed by Paul Rieffel, just because he could swing it plenty and hit the target every time, and showed that injuries that significantly reduce your pace dont necessarily mean you can't be a world class bowler.

I grew up watching Dennis Lillee and Jeff Thompson. DK is my fave because of his speed and moustache. And with big Maxie Walker, you never new if he was going to bowl the ball or trip over during his delivery stride.

Yeah I've watched plenty of videos and replays of Lillee, theres no doubt that if the speed machines were accurate both him and thomo (yeah i know he is clocked in at the fastest speed but that wasnt even at his peak or in a real match where he had a chance to warm up) would have clocked faster than brett lee, especially at their peak. I loved thomos slingshot style, but when i tried to do it as a kid i always bowled the ball off the pitch :o

yeh i caught some of flintoff's innings last night, not bad.

paul reiffel used to piss me off too. a good bowler, but he looked like a rat and as a lower order batsman, he was pretty good and was always hard to get out.

as far as aussies, i grew up on dean jones, greg matthews, allan border, rackemann, simon o'donnell, mcdermott and them shits. i liked dean jones but always hated simon o'donnell. for the english i always had a soft spot for young jack russell and his moustachioed doppelgangers allan lamb and graham gooch. but fucking phillip tufnell infuriated me.

116-5. I wanna see them bowled out by the time I get back from TKD. Which'll be about 2pm.

Haha, Australia are rubbish for a change and England are good for a change.

Which really does make a change (y)

the aussies are frustrating me so much. it's not that England are playing a better game; it's just the aussies are FUCKING SHIT right now. they need some new blood in the batting order. tell Haydon to fuck off. Langer is OK, Ponting is good, Katich... hasn't had a lot of test time, Martyn/Gilchrist/Clarke are doing well.

Ponting was funny when he was run out. It all makes for good watching.

However, I do think Australia have a good chance of a draw. Maybe. In this test and if they draw the seris then they win anyway. So a little over the top in some places of the media and fans but it makes for good watchin...

Nope, we're boned. Kaspa's just come in and we're only a hundred-odd runs up with a day-and-a-half to play.

Maybe we'll actually play well at The Oval, win, square the series and retain the Ashes.

I dunno Lee and Kasper are gunning it with the bat this series. Although Taits not much with the bat. If only Warney had've stayed in we might've got close to setting them 200 odd.

Does anyone know what he was pissed off about? I saw him having a serious go at one of the umpires and he was fuming to himself walking off. He was fully angry about something.

ChrisLove
08-28-2005, 09:23 AM
He was angry because he was run out by a substitute fielder who he thought shouldnt have been on the pitch. What he didnt know was that the fielder had replaced Simon Jones who had gone to hospital so Ponting ended up looking like a dick (y)

England currently need 90 to win with 8 wickets remaining but Warne looking very dangerous - I can hardly watch...

Needless to say - cricket is fuckin awesome

Now Tait's piece of stupidity with the bat is looking costly, we could've made 20 or 30 more runs and had England in trouble.

I've never understood cricket, because we don't get it over here at all.
So can someone explain it to me. I have to know all about it because I'm trying to blend in in Engerland.

It takes waaaaaaay too long to explain cricket properly. Maybe you could watch a few matches and catch some of the rules that way.

I just goes to show that we need some decent batsmen. Most of them got starts: Langer 61, Clarke Katich Ponting and Warne all got into their 40's and 50's but are getting out playing stupid shots rather than going on with it. Nothing wrong with our bowlers.

Full credit to the Pom's for playing excellent cricket, though.

If Tate hadn't have fucked up at the end, I reckon England could have been in a bit of bother...
