The Pats are younger and faster at most defensive positions, with one of the league's best lines (Seymour ended his holdout, Wilfork was nasty as a rookie and looks even better in camp already) and a secondary that should be top notch now that Samuel and Wilson have a year under their belts. The remaining linebackers need to step it up since Bruschi and Johnson retired, but we still have McGinest, Vrabel and Rosie Colvin taking 3 of the 4 starting LB spots. The offense is going to be ridiculous, Dillon could easily have a 2,000 yard season, while Brady is Brady which in and of itself should be enough to make NE AFC favorites. Add to that the depth at TE and WR and there's no way any AFC defense can stop them. Let's also not forget the fact that Peyton is Belichick's whipping boy, how anyone can seriously pick the Colts to win the AFC is beyond me.

the Colts just need to improve thier defense enough to slow the pats down.
turn it into an "offense vs. offense" battle.
gee, i wonder who would win that?
guarunteed Dungy made "beating the pats defense" his #1 priority.
Hal9000
08-11-2005, 10:31 AM
As if it wasn't his #1 priority the last 2 seasons? He's failed miserably every other time, look at the AFC playoffs this past year, the Colts couldn't score a single touchdown, and the Pats defense was starting a WR (Troy Brown) at corner to make up for Ty Law's absence. Dungy isn't half the coach Belichick is, Manning isn't half the quarterback Brady is, and the Colts, along with the rest of the NFL, will continue to be dominated by the Pats.
An O vs. O shootout isn't necessarily in the favor of the Colts either. Dillon has the edge over James (the Pats have always kept James on ice) and with Brady's improved corps of receivers and Indy's weak secondary, it's likely that the Pats could hang at least 4-5 TD's and 3-4 FG's on the Colts (Pats have best money kicker in the game, Vinatieri, Colts have Vanderjagt, who missed game winning field goals twice against the Pats last year).

08-11-2005, 10:36 AM
Let me just say, that you are forgetting that the Steelers were the number 1 defense last year. You don't go 15-1 by coasting on your offense, which saw the resurrection of the Bus and the first coming of Veron Haynes. Not to mention that the Steelers beat both the Pats and Eagles at points where both team were undefeated. And with a weaker defense with the Pats, the Steelers will beat them. And yes, Hines Ward will be back and you know it. The Colts on the other hand, that could be a different story.

I'm thinking...
NFC
Eagles, Vikings, Falcons, Rams
WC: Seahawks, Packers
AFC
Patriots, Steelers, Colts, Cheifs
WC: Jets, Chargers
Eagles-Vikings NFC Championship
Steelers-Colts AFC Championship
Colts over Eagles in the Bowl.
This is LARGELY based on Indy winning home field throughout the playoffs.

I think the colts have a better shot at beating the Pats this year. Not so much because they're greatly improved, but more-so because the Pats lost alot.
Charlie Weis- Offensive Coordinator.... gone to Notre Dame. Don't discount the amount of impact he had on you're golden boy Tom Brady. His offensive schemes were brilliant against anybody. He made Brady.
Romeo Crennel- Defensive Coordinator.... gone to Cleveland. Make no mistake, Bellichek is the ultimate mastermind behind the Pats defense, but losing Crennel could have an effect with respect to continuity. This is the least hurtful loss
Tedy Bruschi - Linebacker...year off after a stroke. This guy is the absolute heart and soul of the Pats defense. Its a shame that he suffered the stroke. He'll be missed greatly on the field in terms of leadership. He also had a knack for making a huge play every game. A big loss definitely.
Ted Johnson- Linebacker... retired. What this guy lacked in talent he made up for in work ethic and preparedness. He may not have been a huge contributor, but like bruschi was a big part of the leadership on defense. Losing Johnson will hurt more than you think.
Ty Law... Cornerback....free agent casualty. Sure they won in the Playoffs and SuperBowl without him but he was a big part of their success over the years. Losing him doesn't hurt terribly but its another significant hit to the defensive leadership.
Now as a Colts fan I'd much rather all those pieces still be in place....because that was the Pats at their best. Now I think they're a different team. Can the Colts get over the hump. I don't know. Do I think If they're going to get over the hump they have a better chance this year than last. Absolutely.
The Colts Defense has not really been the problem against the Pats. Even getting beat 20-3 in the Playoffs was not soley on the D. They played well for nearly 3 quarters. The Colts offense failed to sustain any drives to keep the D off the field. Hence they finally wore down. In the opener last year the Colts easily could have won. Edge ran well and chewed up the Pats D but fumbled twice in the redzone. Vandershank fuckin blew that game... and the two games prior. That guy is horrible. The real factor is home field advantage. The Colts need it bad. I'm sure this year's regular season game at Foxboro is again going to be for just that.
Bottom line ....The Colts can beat the Pats this year. Will they? We'll see Nov. 7th.

they have no recievers.to be determined....
well, they ain't done.....but they have a huge hole at WR....and an average RB.
and they lost thier corners on defense.Sheldon Brown and Lito Sheppard were the starting corners all of last season. Troy Vincent and Bobby Taylor were shown the door two seasons ago.
no superbowl for you!
We are returning 22 of 24 starters to a team that went down to the last minute of the Super Bowl. T.O. was hurt throughout the playoffs and we made it to the Bowl anyway, as well as we've made it to the NFC title game for the past 4 years running. We could easily make it back and this year the Pats have taken a big step backwards.
We have some holes, but don't think that we can't get there without T.O.

The Niners will win 6-8 games with the rookie starting. If they sit Smith, the Niners win 4 games tops. Maybe that's a good strategy, then they can pick top 3 again, next year. So many holes on offense.
The Pats are still the team to beat. Sure, losing the assistants is going to change things, but Belichick is a madman and will spend every minute of every day preparing, if he has to. Actually, losing the assistants made the Pats more likely to repeat -- no complacency there, at all. Plus, as Hal pointed out, the Pats won with defense scheme, especially DB. The linebackers and leadership are the question marks, but maybe some of the TE depth can play LB?
The Eagles will play bridesmaids, again. I'm not sure about Superbowl, though. Maybe lose NFC championship game, 3 out of 4? They can't overcome the WR issues -- with or without TO.
The Browns have Droughons, but without Denver's blocking scheme, he'll fall off like all other Denver RB castoffs.
The Chiefs have no D. Until they prove they can play D, I won't believe it. Nice running game, though.
Minnesota is a joke. Tice scalped tickets? I bet he pockets player fines and doesn't tip at restaurants, either!
Is everyone sleeping on the Raiders? Another year of Collins learning Turner's offense. Moss is catching passes along Porter, now. They should be improved on D. They're my sleeper team.
The Cardinals are a popular pick in the NFC West. I don't like being popular, but with Green doing things his way, and a young, fast team, they're the next Minnesota -- just good enough to tease, but they have holes.
The Colts' window of opportunity is closing.
Only Qdrop would call a team with 4 trips to the Superbowl losers. Ultimately, every team that doesn't win the Superbowl loses, but there are 28 (30 now?) other teams that would have traded positions with the Bills, those years.

i still felt it was thier line that did the job. they have a good defensive scheme, nonetheless....
the fact remains....
you don't have WR corp to speak of...
TO ain't comin back.....he shouldn't be, anyway...
westbrook, while a decent back....is still pretty average. though he has been overacheiving recently. that won't last.
sorry, i just can't help but be skeptical about them...they'll be good....but really think they overachieved last year...

but shit, i just think that whole defensive squad just has emotional issues.

Is everyone sleeping on the Raiders? Another year of Collins learning Turner's offense. Moss is catching passes along Porter, now. They should be improved on D. They're my sleeper team yeah, i'm kinda curious about them too. they were always kind of a choker team- though who knows what could have been had the Raven's Siragusa not cheap-shoted Gannon's leg in 2001(2). then the ice bowl in 2002(3).
hmm...shit...i guess they didn't really choke. just extranious circumstances.
they were a powerhouse in 2003(4)....just got beat by a better team in the superbowl.
wonder if they can reclaim the faith this year?

Orton has looked better than any other Bears QB I have seen in almost a decade. With the filthy defense the Bears put on the field, he won't have to be the answer. Look for the Roethlisburger comparisons by week 3. I'll bet anyone here a CD he wins more games than Favre this year.
you're on. how about save the comparisons for week 17 after he wins 14 straight.

yeah....you ever notice that Tennessee has a habit of doing that?
starting out with a big impressive drive...and then proceed to stink the joint up...
like the Titans/Ravens playoff game in 2000...
and numerouse games last season....
i dunno man...
i know we have the youngest team in the NFL and the most starting rookies and all...
but come on...ARM TACKELING?
and that secondary?.....jesus, we need some real safeties....i don't think Tank is gonna cut it.
i mean, just watching the Ravens game last night....
shit, i remember when the Titan's D was that good. you could COUNT on it to beat the shit out of everyone...to manhandle and dominate....
i miss that.
anyway, i think Fisher will right the ship somewhat and allow for a semi-respectable 6-10, maybe 7-9 finish...

The Jets are a good team, I thought that was going to be the game of the week. KC smoking was them very impressive. I bet Javon Walker is wishing he was still holding out. Packers are the worst team in the NFC now, it's too bad Favre might not make it to week 13 to face the Bear onslaught. Patrick Ramsey almost lost his head yesterday. Beeeaarssss. Jeff Fisher has lost all his 85' Bears Magic Dust, the Titans stink badly. Sausage.
Piss on the Steelers, tell Polemanuno to get a damn haircut. Is there some kind of rule where every time has to have at least one guy in the secondary with terrible hair? I could run for 100+ if I were in the Steeler backfield. Dit-ka. Mike Martz is the worst coach in the league. Why do you call time out with 2:04 left in the 4th quarter on defense down by 3? To save 4 seconds? He made up for it by calling a pass on 1st and ten in field goal range down by 3.

Dude, the amount of hate you hold for the Steelers is hilarious. Frustration is a funny thing. Second, that second sentence isn't even close to making sense. Troy Polamalu is soon to be recognized as the best cornerback in the league, so I could care less about his hairdo. That's just shows the mentality of every other team in comparison. We here in the Burgh don't give a fuck about our looks, cheerleaders, or any other frill that every other team finds necessary. We play football, exceedingly well, mind you.

Shouldn't you be busy compiling a cd for me? Actually, the Steelers are my 2nd favorite team. Great history, uniform, and I have always loved their brand of ball. I say piss on them because they haven't won anything in almost 30 years but if you look at how the fans act you would think they were in the midst of a dynasty like the Patriots are. I have an ill fitting Neil O'Donnell jersey. Look at my Supebowl prediction, I would love to see the Bears and Steelers butt heads in The Super Bowl. I know Pailemanenauo is a good player, I just think he looks way too much Jimmy Superfly Snuka. (http://www.jimmysnuka.com/images/snuj_04.jpg )

The Bears/Dit-ka thing is hilarious to me because the Super Fan sketch was dead on accurate to pretty much every over 40 hardcore Bears fan I know. Honestly I think the Bears will fight for a play-off spot with Minnesota and Detroit, but I know they aren't better than Carolina, Philly, Atlanta and twice as many teams in the AFC. Pittsburgh laughs in the face of comments like that. People said the same thing last year when they had to play NE and Philly back to back and we know what happened there. I'm just saying, if you're a true follower of the Stillers, you know Cowher is the fuckin' man and he can pinpoint any weakness on the team and improve on it the next season. No, but when you lose the best center in the game and you can't run the ball or pass protect you have problems. The O coordinator they lost to Miami must have been doing something right if he can make the Dolphins offense respectable.
When your up 31 - 6 at the half you're not going to be throwing the ball too much.

Carr won't be the only QB that Polamalu will be making "special" this season.
Yo, Q, as for your query on whether to start Dillon in your fantasy, let me remind you that, if my memory serves me, Dillon had 5 yards in their regular season game last season. I see no reason for the same events to occur.

You all know there are other teams in the NFL besides the Bears and The Steelers?
And skinny, are you serious with all of your Bears talk?
I understand as a diehard you have no choice to SAY they are going to win every game, but do you go into the season really believing they'll go 16-0 every season, and then change the prediction week by week as they lose?
As a Giants fan, yes I WANT them to go 16-0, but even with 2 convincing double digit wins, I still don't think they are anything better than a 9 win team.
It must be tough having reality kick you in the nuts every season.
You all know there are other teams in the NFL besides the Bears and The Steelers?
Who are these Bears you speak of??
I bet your happy blu, with the acquisition of Burress so far. One man's trash is another man's treasure. Just wait til his head gets too big for the Giants, then you're fucked. When he came to Pittsburgh, he seems like a mild mannered, level-headed kid. A few years down the road, he transformed into Capt. Asshole. You'll see, but as long as he produces, who cares, right?

Dillon didn't play in the regular season matchup, missed that week with a leg injury. In the AFC title game he put up 73 yards and a TD in a highly pass-oriented offense (for that game anyways). Not saying he'll do well Sunday but don't count him out.

Yeah, well that didn't happen.

Bears vs. Steelers. That's right.
Bears 26
Steelers 17
The Bears will contend for that terrible ass division (Detroit moved back into first on their bye week) all year. I had them at 9 - 7 and I stick by it. Nobody in the NFC scares me that much, with that defense they can beat anybody in the NFC. The AFC is different story. Carson Palmer is your MVP thus far, and he played like it yesterday.
Skinny is a smoking, smoking 0 - 4 ATS this weekend. Take KC and the 3.5 and go ahead and buy your woman something nice. A gift from me to you.
What a shitty game for my steelers. Everyone is talking about how Brady always finds a way to win. Fuck that, we beat ourselves. Randle El trying for that fucking lateral blew it. Granted, if Ward would of caught it, it would have been the shit and plastered all over ESPN, but you don't try that shit when your inside the ten yard line. We didn't do shit the entire second half until one minute remaining in the game, and it took a game-winning field goal to get the job done. All I know is, mark my fucking' words, God have mercy on the NFL, especially the Chargers, when we come back from our bye week. Two weeks to stew from that heartbreaker............you're all fucked.

it was a back and forth battle....both teams turned the ball over too many times, and gave the momentum away in the process....
Titans secondary (PACMAN mostly) got ripped by Torry Holt all fuckin afternoon...but that's to be expected, i guess.
Mcnair still had a chance to win it at the end.....
got the offense down to like the 20 yard line.
4th and 7...36 seconds left....no time outs. need a TD to win it.
he takes the shotgun....he has chris brown open for 10 yards and a first down, with time to spike it and take couple more shots at the end zone.
but instead...he elects to lob a pass to the sideline of the end zone to a blanketed Drew Bennet...and out of bounds.
no possible catch.
bad pass.

I still think the Colts defense is shockingly good. I have a feeling it's smoke an mirrors right now. Once they hit a team like the Pats or Steelers (not sure if they play either any time soon) they will need to keep it going. Otherwise Peyton will have to get used to throwing 5-7 touchdowns a game again.

let's recap the first quarter of the season- along with an updated predicted finish--
Pats:
What happened to the AFC East, btw? the Pat slide has begun. still good, but not the best. 11-5
Miami:
how are they winning? good coaching i guess. 9-7
Bills:
Holcombe, where are you? and no Takeo? 7-9
Jets:
overhyped team to begin with, now no chad and no offense. 5-11
Bengals:
they are for real. 11-5
Steelers:
a 2-way battle for the division. 11-5
Ravens:
that offense is still a joke. the defense took a step backward. 7-9
Browns:
still 2 years away. 6-10
Colts:
all roads to the playoffs will come through Indy. this should be their year. 13-3
jags:
why is Leftwich still making rookie mistakes? need more offense! 10-6
Titans:
too young, and bad play calling/penalties. need more talent and time. 6-10
Texans:
thank god there's a team worse than mine in the division. Carr blows, cut em. that team has no heart. they need a hardcore house cleaning after this season. 5-11
Chargers:
way better than their current record. sick offense, D needs to tighten up. 11-5
Chiefs:
where is that vaunted offense? where's Gonzalez? 10-6
Denver:
how are the winning? they are overachieving, and it will show. 9-7
Raiders:
defense sucks, offense can't gel...injuries. not this year, Randy. 7-9
Philly:
hope Mcnabb can stay alive. the D needs to tighten. 12-4
Giants:
Go Eli! need more defense, though. 11-5
Dallas:
fix that D, parcells. 10-6
Skins:
great D, no offense. great coaching. overachieving right now. 9-7
Bears:
pathetic division..no one is much better than the other. good D, good rungame. 8-8
Lions:
cut Harrington. jesus. draft some more defense too. 6-10
Packers:
no D, but favre will keep them somewhat respectable. 7-9
vikes:
dude. what is wrong with them? what is wrong with Daunte? did he get the Kurt Warner bug? people need to get fired. 6-10
Falcons:
if vick ever perfects his passing game...wow. great team, great coach. 12-4
Bucs:
great D, great running game. decent pass attack at times.but they will stumble some this year. 11-5
Panthers:
they will right the ship and stay competative. 10-6
Saints:
classic underachieving saints. just cut and fire everyone. just get it over with. 7-9
Seahawks:
this division is week. this team is weak. choke artists. 10-6
Rams:
same thing. 9-7
Cards:
needs more time...and a good QB. 7-9
49ers:
gettin better....could move up. 8-8

Congrats Titans, the second worst team in football beat the worst team in football. I'd be proud too.
Whatever tithead said the Packers were the worst team in the NFl better be eating a pound of shit right now. Not going anywhere but the worst team doesn't score 50 something points in a game. Suck it.
Colts win Super Bowl.

I never said anything about the MVP, rookie mistakes are to be expected. They lost Sunday because of coaching and bad secondary play. I still think they will win that shit-filled division. This is what we call a value bet:
2005-6 - NFC North Division - Winner
Team / Player Odds
Chicago Bears 12 - 1
I'm in Vegas this weekend. Who should I put the mortgage payment on?
Cincinnati Bengals - 3
Buffalo Bills - 3
Oakland + 2
Bye bye Pittsburgh.
Colts win it all.
You're such a fag. So, who's dick you lickin' this week?? Ben's fine, probably won't play today, whatever. I'm just a little jacked Cowher won't give Chuck Batch the nod. Look for Parker to tear shit up today.

Boy you need to relax, we all know Pittsburgh isn't fucked. They barely squeaked in a win against the Chargers last Monday, so here's hoping they don't need to rely on a field goal to get the win.
By the way, I see my Colts are now everyones pick to win it all....

I didn't want to add this on to the other post so here's my two cents. Surprise is good, shock is bad.
Surprise: Dallas. Off to a great start, kudos to the Dallas offense, namely Bledsoe.
Shock: Philadelphia. Should be tops in their division, where's TO?
Surprise: The whole division. All of them below .500, looks to be the weakest division in football. No team looks much better than the others.
Shock: Green Bay. Who would have thought they would suck out so bad?
Surprise: Carolina. They are hanging in there with TBay and Atlanta, should be an interesting end of the season scramble.
Shock: no shocks here. NO couldn't play on emotion for too long....
Surprise: Nobody. Looks pretty normal.
Shock: St. Louis??? Rams might beat Peyton tonight.
Surprise: Buffalo, top of the division. How?
Shock: New England. Is this the end of their run?
Surprise: Cincinnati. Carson Palmer is blowing away the league. Second highest QB rating in the AFC, next to Pittsburgh's Ben Roethlisberger.
Shock: Pittsburgh. Lost 2 of 3 and seemingly on the slide. Hopefully it will end soon for them, otherwise the sophmore jinx might come true for Ben.
Surprise: Jacksonville keeping pace with Indy. We'll see....
Shock: Houston, I didn't think they'd suck this much.
Surprise: Denver. I personally didn't see them doing this well.
Shock: Chargers. Although the loss to Pittsburgh was a close call, I hope they bounce back, Drew Brees is a fantastic QB.

HAHHAHAHAHAHHAHAHHAHHAHHHAHAHHAAHHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAA AAAAAAA!!
I ended up betting the Bills and cashing a nice little ticket. I'm not foolish enough to put a mortgage payment on a game, but I wish I would have. The Raiders fucked up my 4-game teaser. I shouldn't have bet against LT.
The Bears are 50 - 1 to win the NFC. They are 2 - 0 in the division, and they will win at least 3 of their next 4. They will be in the play-offs. Where is the dominant team in the NFC? Those odds will be 10 - 1 by Thanksgiving.
Nice way to line up two statements that make you look like a complete moron. Yes, Palmer is kicking ass, there's no doubt there, but how nice of you to shed light on the dominant QB rating of one Ben Roethlisberger. However, how can you say the Steelers are on a slide losing two of three? Freak accidents. The Jags game was pure shit due to the fact that Cowher had no fucking clue what he was doing the whole game. For some reason, he felt he owed Maddox a time to shine for his works in years past, apparently no matter how bad he fucked up. Also, Bettis was nonexistent. The loss=Bill Cowher's poor judgment. Sophmore Jinx?? No fucking way. HIGHEST RATING. NO INTERCEPTIONS. NOT GONNA HAPPEN. END OF STORY. We'll see what's up this Sunday. The question isn't on Ben, it's on Carson.

First off, I'd like to point out that the Colts are 7-0. And have given up the least points in the league, save I think one other team. And clearly showed that their offence is not lacking.
Steeler win one? Yeah, they pretty much had to. We'll see what happens when they face the Colts.
Dude, you jump to a different bandwagon every Monday, so personally, your opinion means jack shit to me. Although, you've been sticking with the Colts for a few weeks now. What a surprise, root for the team with the best record in the league. Furthermore, look at every team they've played to date. Shit teams. Kinda like the Bengals.
