Tomorrow, I'll go back and climb from the base to the top
using the footpaths that you can see in some of these
shots.
What amazed me: I'd be standing somewhere looking
into the fog and the fog would clear and there'd be
a huge mountain there instead of fog.
And all throughout the valleys and peaks you can hear
cowbells. As if all the ringing they've ever done is
still echoing through the hills.
So emotional to see something like this right in
front of me. There were times that I blinked
in disbelief and it brought tears to my eyes.

Wow enree! I ski in Switzerland, I'd like to see it this time of year though, sans snow. I enjoyed your pictures, especially the first and third.

I think it would be both breathtaking and terrifying
to see those huge peaks covered with snow and ice
(they get avalanches here--crikey) and to be so close
to it. That's the thing that astounded me--how close I
was to all of that. I've been in mountains before, not
like this. The photos don't do it justice because it was
hard to capture the mood of the clouds as they swept
by to reveal more mountains behind them and tiny
dots of color that were actually hikers. I guess I
was a dot of color to them.
Reminds me of a Gary Larson cartoon of two pilots
flying a plane and the one says to the other,
"What's that mountain goat doing up here?" :)

The hills are alive with the sound of music!
Someone was yodleing in the peaks opposite me!
It sent a chill down my spine (and again, it wasn't
that it was cold up there :D).

No way!
I know! And two old guys were playing those big ricola horns.
And I think the person was yodeling (v. yodleing, as I
spelled it in my previous post--I must be techno-music'd
out :)).

It appears to be very hospitable here in terms of
campers and backpackers, but I can't say for sure
since I opted not to camp on this trip.
I'm staying in a hostel that's designed for backpackers
and they talk about how easy it is to get around in
Switzerland and find inexpensive and clean places
to stay--indoors and outdoors.
I go climbing again now. Yay although I'm going light
and won't be bringing my camera to this climb.

two more mountain (descent) shots--in the first one
that's a train. It looks miniature but it's not.

In these next three shots, you can see how the clouds
cleared to reveal mountains that didn't seem to be there before.
It's hard to capture this--the clouds roll in
and out very quickly. The view of the mountain might
be there for 30 seconds and then it's obscured again.
The whole time, though, you can hear many cowbells
coming from everywhere.

In these next shots, it's the foothills (and peaks behind
the clouds) from a lake below.
