Does anyone have Cheers Series 1 on DVD? If so can you confirm what i think I am seeing in the 3rd episode on disc 2 (Coach Returns to Action). During the scene with Coach, Carla and Diane talking in the Mens Toilets Diane stands in front of a paper towel dispenser. Written clearly underneath it with black marker on the wall is the word "Wanking" with an arrow!
It is 16 min and 36sec through that episode according to my dvd player...
And I thought Cheers was such a wholesome show!

ok
"bloody" is ok on US tv too (which to my understanding is the equivalent of "fucking")

You've understood wrong. Bloody isn't as strong as fucking. Neither of them get bleeped on (most) british shows. But you still can't say fuck on american telly. Which is a fucking shame.

How is a show set in a bar wholesome?

I always found it incredibly hard to believe that Sam was a recovering alcoholic but worked in/owned a bar....plus how come there were never any bar brawls, beer goggles, puking, smoking or other bar stuff?

Because it was an old man bar. It was the towney bar.
It wasn't the "cool" place to go.
Come on. It only had one TV.

I visited Cheers when I was in Boston. Sam wasn't there. Neither was Norm.

oh. well, british censorship is a lot weaker than american censorship...i went to london when i was 13 and i was amazed to see tits after 9, you never see that on US tv, not without paying for it. we've started hearing "shit" lately (south park did it in the most tasteful way, in my opinion), but i think networks still get fined for it. it's pretty lame

Haha!
A recovering alcoholic owning a bar! What the hell? Talk about Hollywood bullshit! It's like a heroin addict who's also a dealer only he never gets high on his own supply!
I've personally never liked the show. It's just too damn fake for me.

I loved it the first time I saw Shaun of the Dead and Ed says "cunt" near the start.
I knew at that moment how truly great that movie was going to be. (y)
And no titties on US TV? That's just shit. In England every kid sees his first pair of knockers on TV at about age 6 or 7. It's great! :D (y)

Believe me I live in the U.S. and I envy your t.v. situation.
