View Full Version : What would you do if you had a ginger kid?

This is one of my greatest fears! Probably still love it like a dad would blah blah blah etc. Female wouldn't be too bad but a male ginger kid!?! Do you get state benifit for such a thing happening? I mean you'd have to start saving for therapy sessions right away from when the kids is about 14 otherwise he might burn down every hair salon in the country  And all the sun lotion you'd have to buy, even in winter!

I feel bad when I see ginger kids.

well red hair would be cool. I mean ginger <-- A bit like this colour. But if it was RED, like this colour then I'd be ok with that.

You see there is s ginger in our family every 3 generations apparently and my offspring would be in that generation. So it's a rational fear.

But I suppose, I know a few ginger adults and they are fine, but man, kids used to tease the hell out of gingers at school... Kids can be cruel dude!

I have to say, I was very surprised when I came to the UK at this whole "ginger" thing, and how much antagonism there is towards people with red hair.

I mean I can't speak for all of America, but where I grew up (in and around NYC), it's nothing like any kind of big deal. Someone having red hair might get them called 'flame-head' on the playground or whatever, but in the same way a kid with glasses would be called 'four-eyes' or one with braces would be 'brace-face' or any other of the usual kidstuff teasing that goes on that is largely harmless.

But here it's like A BIG FUCKING DEAL to be 'ginger', and it's, like, a perfectly acceptable thing for grown adult people to mock others for openly. Very very weird. I've been told by some friends that it's the last acceptable form of racism in the UK, because it dates back to the conquering of the Celtic peoples (who are the genetic source of the 'ginger' gene, apparently.)

Crazy Brits.

I completely agree. Besides I was in love with the hottest redhead in the world when i was in high school. She was red and freckly but insanely hot.

See? You are implying that normally red and freckly women can't be hot but this particular one was :)

I think it's either a cultural thing or a biological...

I hate to generalize entire groups of people but from what I've seen around me red heads are often either absolutely gorgeous or very plain, not many are inbetween.

There was this american girl at our school who had ginger hair and she was hot. I liked her but she kinda got teased by people for being ginger, by my mates and cus I didn't joined in, I got teased for fancying a ginger haired girl, which I did but didn't admit to. Fucking peer pressure man, it fucks up people for life. Thinking about her now, man I wish I got to know her outside of school. I can't even remember her name to look her up now :o

There was this one kid (male) who I grew up with at the same schools from 4 years old to 15 (when I left) but we used to tease the hell out of him, Bigger bullies used to hit him, proper cruel stuff. Feels wrong. He used to fight back, which was good for him but when he did, more bullies used to have a go.

If I have a ginger kid that is male then, I could say, fight the fuckers back but if school doesn't change too much then the poor kid'll messed up!

I suppose I'd have to move to America or Holland in that case, which wouldn't be too bad, could get used to the customs, especially in Holland! (y)

America maybe! GOD BLESS OUR TROOPS! *shudders* j/k

My friend and her sister are redheads and were never accepted my one side of the family purely because every redhead before them was a complete bastard. So her grandparents would spoil the two brunette siblings but wouldn't look at my mate or her sister, in case they were, er, evil.

but the way i see it is, if i have a ginger kid they can become an actor and play all the ... erm... ginger roles, and in 15 years time when the harry potter films are re-made they can play a weasley.

I thought this thread meant "ginger" like as in what if you're kid is a "wiener boy" or total wuss. If that were the case I'd just beat and torment them until they became tough. But shit making fun of some poor lil red head that's just mean. Besides I think I'll be okay considering I have black hair and brown eyes and I'm pretty sure the woman I have kids with will to

I think people with red / ginger hair are adorable...and make them original. I went to school with this girl who hare beautiful red hair and it was naturally curly...I think you should worry more about your kid being healthy than what color he / she hair will be.

I remember years ago reading a British music magazine and that guy from Simply Red was going on about the bias towards ginger-haired people and I thought wtf? I figured he was a pretty gruesome guy and not because of the hair.

TonsOfFun
10-14-2005, 09:19 AM
That guy is just ugly.

I think Karma bit me in the ass today. I was dying my hair red and when I washed it out it was ginger. I think it was because I was using Henna rather than the normal dye I use. I know Henna is not always that great on bleached hair. But the other stuff is not that great when I do swimming cus it doesn't stay in.

So yeah, I had ginger hair, but I wanted a pillarbox red colour. So now I've gone back to my normal red hair dye which I've just put in, so I'll have a pillarbox red colour soon :)

I did look good as ginger person tho. But you could tell it was dyed. I think it's more ginger kids who get a raw deal and I'd feel bad for the kid if she/he was my own. When they grow up they'll be alright cus kids aren't as cruel.

Sometimes I think Brittons are so narrowminded and still live in the Victorian era. I never understood this dislike of red-haired people either. It doesn't make their brains any different.
I have loads of red-haired friends, one of them was married to a red-haired Englishman and all their kids are redheads with loads and loads of freckles. And they live by the sea so you can think how much sunblock they have to buy every summer!

I'm guessing you've never heard jokes or satire or sarcasm in that sense ever? Cus it's exactly the same and even though you've never laughed at such jokes, do you really think all Brits would not love their own child cus they was ginger?!

so like they are a lot of ginger jokes? or they are considered to be ugly? or both?

because I know that at least in grade school, blondes don't get made fun of for being blonde. Also, there may be a lot of blonde jokes, but there are plenty of people here who love blondes.

I feel confused by this comparison.
